Up in Smoke

It’s Wednesday morning and I’m in my corner working on the newsletter for momentary publication. Laree’s in her perch attending audio transcriptions for her educational and inspirational movementlectures.com website. Outside our quaint domicile among the towering redwoods are four masked men on ladders and scaffolds wielding power sanders as they prepare the cedar exterior for stain and sealant.

Incoming… bizzz, bazzz, buzzz, whirrr. Close one! Laree and I now have an idea what it’s like to hold up in a giant beehive under attack by the evil yellowjackets from the north. Day Three. They never quit… zzzoorr, zzzeerr. Seriously!

The assailants, these young rascals, apparently don’t pause, converse, eat, drink or go potty. Rather, relentless and determined, they tediously grind every board, trim and eve. Laree and I are an indomitable duo, yet we cower at the roaring invasion, longing for nightfall when the aggressors have been known to withdraw. At daybreak they’ll reassemble and return with vengeance.

Crash… blank… silence… Rats. They stopped? Not exactly. Circuit over-loaded. The power went down along with my swirling, unsaved words of wisdom and encouragement. I try to recall them, but they, like splashless confetti, rain down from cloudless skies upon a waterless seabed.

How’d it go, today’s newsletter, I desperately grope… “In one breath I claim I want to train hard; in the next breath I make plain that mass and might are my fight; in the third breath I explain the need to exercise smartly for health and longevity. And in the last breath, more like a pain, I complain I never want to see the inside of a gym again. The weights, they make me crazy insane.”

Alas, it’s not there, the 9-15-2012 edition of IronOnline, certain contender for this year’s Nobel Prize in Strength and Courage, Academy Awards in three categories (Pecs, Lats and Delts) and Golden Globe Award for Excellence and Exuberance.

I have a super idea. Let’s seize the day and wander down a path we seldom travel, one that takes us away from the iron and things heavy and cumbersome and toward a place more delightful and uplifting. Ah, yes, this is America, one nation under God, indivisible, with freedom and justice for all. We celebrate life with modesty and humility, gratitude and God-given rightfulness.

However, bombers, you might want to skip the latest news. Lookin’ kinda grim out there. Another misunderstanding.

Dare I say it? Train hard, eat right, be happy, be thankful and encourage your neighbor.
