We in the central coast of California are enjoying the greatest weather anywhere on the planet Earth since its discovery over a thousand years ago. A month of sunny, warm and humidity-free days with a stroke of breeze has invigorated the lethargic and calmed the restless. Oh, look there’s a puffy white cloud on the azure blue horizon. I don’t say this without anxiously imagining an imminent 7.9 earthquake lurking in the rock formations just beneath the glorious landscape.

Wait...! Did you feel that?!

Yes, that’s a week’s supply of rations and emergency supplies in my backpack in case you were wondering. It weighs just over 75 pounds with my Bomber Blend, rubber exertube, handgrips, tank tops and posing trunks. Laree says I’m crazy and should have my head examined. She’s built a concrete bunker for her computer, swivel chair, generator and fuel supply.

And to think they’re firing cannons at each other in the Middle East and in Washington, DC. What’s that all about? You’d think natural disasters, acts of God and basic survival would be entertaining enough. Get some barbells, dumbbells and benches to resolve your disagreements, people. Life’s too short.

The left pulls and the right pushes; the right pulls and the left pushes. All together now -- curls and presses, squats and deadlifts. What’s so hard about that? You spot me, I spot you. Whatever you do, don’t close the gym.

Exercise is good for your health, too.

Weight training is not only cooperative and unifying, it reduces frustration, soothes the soul and is known to fix, mend, heal and restore things that hurt or are broken. Thus, and this is a biggee, it almost eliminates the need for costly, confusing and impossible health care plans.

Major added attraction: Lifting weights offers universal relief.

Dumbbell inclines supersetted with stiff-arm pullovers have solved just about every problem this world traveler and adventurer has ever encountered. Throw in some standing barbell curls with lying triceps extensions and you have universal energy, abundance and enduring peace.

For laughs, press-behind-necks combined with side-arm lateral raises in superset fashion are a knee-slapping, gut-wrenching riot. Wrist curls with an Olympic bar and thumbs-up curls are good for a smile. Combined, they’ll tickle your funny bone as no other multi-set will.

The lusty among you, those who never seem to get enough, can always count on squats and deadlifts to satisfy your cravings. In the past I performed the exercises on separate days using my reliable 5 x 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 reps approach. Life was simple, as I recall. If lust is problematic, do both exercises on the same day. Should satisfying yourself persist, superset the movements and be done with it. Lust no more.

What’s cool about lifting is you don’t need a team or fields or courts or mountain slopes or expanses of sky or masses of water to perform. You can lift with friends in a gym or alone in a corner. All you require is a stack of iron, a heap of steel and a bench to lean on.

Oh, and you need some guts, a little madness and a hard head; a nose to follow, a fistful of instincts to guide and strong goals to pursue.

I sometimes lift weights blindfolded while wearing ear plugs.
I always drink Bomber Blend before and after every workout.
They don’t call me the Silent And Masked Bomber Obliterator for nothing.

Go... Godspeed... SAMBO

Note: I lied about the blindfold.
