Hello all,

Here is a worthy link for International Men's Health week. Good to share around your workplace.

What are everyone's thoughts on the biggest challenges being male?

Being a male is the biggest challenge. Today's society is attitude toward the male is "sit down, shut up and take your talking to."

That being said, regarding mental health, it's the stigma of admitting, "I'm not feeling right." During the pandemic, 40% of people gained an average of 29 lb. or more. Throw in bad habits, lack of purpose, men have become a mess mentally and physically.

37% of Americans have 3 metabolic risks or more. (Hypertension, high cholesterol, BMI, waist circumference, high A1c) Throw in gaps in care and we have a medical tsunami coming.

I'm always happy, 69 and retired so everyday I do some kind of activity. Gym 4 days a week and advanced Yoga class 3 days, also daily Tai Chi Chuan solo forms plus sword and sabre forms. walk everywhere.

Health is great, no meds or such.

Great post BChase.

Research tells us that men's wellbeing is greatly impacted by society's pressure that paints a narrow portrait of how they are 'supposed' to behave. Men (in general) are known to bottle things up and not talk about their health enough. Sadly, this can reap heavy costs in the form of shallow relationships, poor health, and early death.

In Australia, the stats show the number of men who die by suicide every year is nearly double the national road toll. Having the conversation, reaching out, and breaking down those barriers around men's health could save someone's life.

So, look out for your mates and remind them there's nothing weak or soft about seeking out help. In fact, speaking up about health issues is the strongest thing you can do for a fellow brother.

Another interesting stat is 6,000 more men than women die from cancer in Australia every year. Denial and delay can be the difference between a minor issue becoming a major issue. Therefore, I reckon Men (in general) need gentle reminding to book in that health check they've been putting off.

I know I am speaking to the converted here who already do these things but we need to keep helping out the men who don't.

One of my Yoga teachers is very athletic and knows about weight training so it's gear for what I do. She more into Power Yoga and Yin style for releasing etc. Yesterday she was giving me advice for pistols and she could even do the Dragon squat where one leg circles around the back of the squatting leg. I do these with an overhead pulley.

She (Amy) notes that my hips are very open, no knee issues or back. I'm not a big guy but do like my strength training.
