He weighed 125lbs when he ran professionally. He has made quite the transformation.

Thanks for the link. That was a good watch. He’s made an amazing transformation since his marathon days. Kind of crazy that he missed the mile time but it seems well within reach.

Ryan Hall attempts 500lb deadlift/5 min mile (that Ryan Hall)

I would have thought he’d have been faster, but I don’t know what his training is like, how much 50+ pounds slows you down, or how much a 500lb deadlift right before slows you down. He also attempted it at 6,700 feet.

There’s another unofficial challenge out there which is a 600lbs squat and 6 minute mile, done on the same day (but not immediately after like Ryan Hall’s challenge. ) If those guys (non-elite runners, borderline meatheads) can do a 6 min mile, I’d have thought Hall could have done 5 min. But that’s just me speculating.

In a similar vein, Adam Klink did a 500lb squat and a sub 5 minute mile in the same day. Saw an article that said he weighed 215lbs at the time.

Eh, his best 1500 time was 3:42 which means his best mile was probably 4 minutes and a bit.

So retired from running, gained fifty pounds, ran on a dirt track and just deadlifted 500 pounds...5:28 is pretty good.

(For him, for a regular human it's insane)

Am I the only one confused by a lack of leg locks in this thread?

I'm thinking the deadlift immediately before running must have taken a lot out of him. Now my Youtube feed is inundating me with videos of a Crossfitter squatting (deep) 500lbs and running a 4:53 mile in the same day at a bodyweight of 219lbs. Another guy did the same feat and then ran a 4:47 marathon all on the same day. To be fair, those may be the only two people that have ever accomplished that feat.

Here's a link to the guy who squatted 600lbs, pulled 600lbs and then ran a sub six min mile in the same day. He's never sniffed a 4 minute mile in his life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5op8lvlAJw

Not taking anything away from Hall. But to see those bigger and stronger guys put those running times kinda shows why I'm surprised he wasn't faster.

I'm still waiting for CrossFit to dominate the Olympics. They are clearly dominating broad time and modal domains.
Mark it Zero.
