I just listened to Dan discuss neck work but he made no mention of neck mobility and/or stretching and his thoughts. I stretch regularly but have to watch "over stretching" or it gets sore. Thoughts?

Original strength resets work wonders for me. Tim has neck nods and rolling movements that I do as part of every workout. Improves my computer neck and I'm much more comfortable on my road bike.

Neck work

Oddly enough I've found that periodic long walks along with never sitting or lying down for too long aside from sleep cured all my neck issues. Headstrap and plate on forehead stuff negates the need for any specific neck stretching stuff.

I'll get back to ya after consulting a few giraffes!
The clinics they give might be wordless but tha takeawsy is wonderful.

I think a lot of the stuff you may be doing might be far from productive by any stretch.

Ber-Zing!

Life's too short to worry about longevity.

This. I’m comfortable saying that this quietly changed my life. My neck injury history is awful, and this has made me feel normal for the first time in decades.

The question was about building the neck. Obviously, we do OS every workout every time. That was my knock, among many, on Z Health: all the neck mobility made my neck "go out."

So, OS makes my whole spine happy, but the question was building...I've never made it work well save those neck harness sled walks.

I did that to help my gait and it ended up being illuminating.

I have stenosis in my cervical spine, so I either do my stretches or risk pinching a nerve.

While I don't consciously target the neck in my training, it gets sore the day after power shrugs and some deadlift and squat variations (especially squats with a safety bar). Might have something to do with trying to maintain a neutral position or cueing myself to "[slam] back to the wall" on pulls.

I've done a lot of neck work over the years. Started with simply bridging when I was in high school. Both with and without wearing a helmet. Then it was a head harness and teeth lifting.

Supposedly, Steve Stanko made the teeth lifting device for York.

As someone who wore a helmet for 38 years, all I can say is that neck work certainly made a difference. Having had falling debris drive me down on more than on occasion, I was glad I made the effort.

Like anything, you can easily over do it, and you certainly can hurt yourself in the process. I prefer manual resistance, especially for the mature lifter. YMMV
