Concentrating on your breathing - slow and controlled - will usually drop your heart rate by 5 beats per minute or so. This is fairly easily tested when you're just sitting around, but also if you have some kind of heart rate monitor, are on a modern treadmill, etc.

This is simply ensuring that you take bigger breaths, so that more air gets into your lungs, and thus more oxygen into your bloodstream, so that your heart can get more out of fewer pumps. Nothing magical about it.

I'm not interested in cold showers. Life offers us enough pointless suffering without seeking out more for the sake of it.
