I recently got a golds gym arm blaster to help develop my biceps. However on using the arm blaster while doing curls i am getting discomfort at the back of my left arm (tricep area). Although this does not occur with my right arm.

i have tried to adjust it although not sure wether the comfort position is the most benefical for training.

I just wanted to know is there a certain position/level that arm blaster should be at for both optimum training and comfort?

I appreciate any suggestions

Thank you

If you need to keep your shoulders out of your curls, there are other methods. One alternative is the concentration curl with a dumbbell:

This example isn't the best. It shows a guy using some body and shoulder English. But you can slow it down and remove your shoulder from the equation.

When this device first was marketed, it didn't take people very long to figure out how uncomfortable it was to use it. It was common to see them with padding duct taped to the arm rest areas. Anytime you rest the backs of the arms or elbows against a surface while curling, there is the potential for discomfort...why else are the spider curl bench and preacher curl bench so heavily padded?

Get rid of the thing. They are a training gimmick, at best.

Want the same result? Take a moment to pin your elbows into your stomach or your obliques while curling. Wrap a towel around your forearm and place it behind your upper arm when doing the dumbbell concentration curl.

Although quite a few ansewers here are, "it doesn't work," I think the trouble is with the form it tends to promote. Don't use it to rest your arm against it, of course it will hurt. Use it to remind you of the position your arms should be in. Let your arms touch lightly against it. Eventually you'll learn to do the move without the aid.

If you cannot perform the move without pain, you may be trying to use too much weight.

zolt4r, Been there done that a long time ago with the arm blaster. Try to get your money back. Mine was the same story as those above as far as discomfort goes.

Hey, I got one of those things at a garage sale 20 years ago for five bucks. Wonder where it is now.

In the 70's the Weider publications featured Arnold in their ads for the blaster. With Arnold looking awseome those were memerable advertisements. I think it helped sales as they were found in both home and commercial gyms. Although in my observance they were rarely used.
