Split Leg Hack Squat: 100 x 10/10, 150 x 8/8 x 2
One Arm Cable Side Lateral: 25 x 15/15, 35 x 12/12 x 2
Decline Bench Press: 135x10, 165x5, 195x7
Hammer Strength High Row: 240x10, 330x5, 400x5
Cable Curl: 95x15, 105x11, 105x15

Bodyweight: 161.1

Another good low volume/high intensity session. This may have been my strongest week this year. Not sure if I'm I'm going to declare victory now or back off next week, then go all out on pullups, TBDLs, decline BPs, and Hammer Strength stuff (row, pulldown, chest press) before I take my Christmas break.

DELOAD
Machine Dip: 160x20, 200x20, 225x15
Chin (chest to bar) x 12 x 3
Straight Arm Pulldown: 52x10x3 ss with
Face Pull: 52x10x3
Cable Hammer Curl: 52x12 to 42x15 to 32x20
Windshield Wiper: 75x25x2
Suitcase Carry: 35 x 1/4 mile
OS Resets

• Everything easy, except pulling my chest to the bar for the chins, which pumped my lats pretty good.
• Apparently, my body loved the OS resets, 'cause I felt euphoric afterwards. Happened two days ago, too. They only take a few minutes. Perhaps,I should keep doing them for a while.

Pullup Goal in the Books!!!
12-16-22 01:50 PM - Post#923862

Treadmill: 5 minutes

Pullup (neutral grip): bodyweight x 3, 49x3, 75x1, 105x6 +1 rest/pause ss with
TRX Y x 10,10,10,20
Low Incline DB BP: 25s x 20, 35s x 15, 40s x 12 (no shoulder pain)
Inverted Cable Row: 120x15, 180x12, 200x10
One Arm Cable Curl: 55 x 10/10 x 2, 65 x 10/10 ss with
OH Tri Ext: 105x12x3
Machine Crunch x 50

Treadmill: 15 minutes

Bodyweight: 162.0

Simply thrilled about exceeding my pullup goal. One rep short of my lifetime PR with 100+ lbs, set in 2006 at a gym in Portland, OR, while cheered on by IOL brethren, Colleen and Stingo. Nobody in the gym even noticed this time, but I made believe my old pals were with me again.

It’s a chair on a sled. You sit in it as you would a chair and “squat” towards and away from away from a platform, as you would a hack squat machine. The weight stack goes up to 415 lbs. Depth is adjustable.

12-30-22 01:47 PM - Post#924056

Thursday
A nice hike in the woods plus my usual walks. About two hours total cardio.

Friday
Delorme (3x10) workout to finish the year. Exercises included:
Leg extension
Leg curl
Dip machine
Pullup
DB press
Hammer curl
Straight arm pulldown

Hip & leg raise x 20 x 2
Cardio (stairmaster and walking): 1 hour

The plan is to start 2023 with the Delorme full body routine -- 6 to 9 exercises, 3 sets each (set 1: 50% ten rep max x 10, set 2: 75% x 5, set 3: 100% x 10). So, it'll be HIT once I get rolling (i.e., establish my 10-rep maxes). After a mesocycle or two, I will probably integrate PHAT and lightening rounds for conditioning and to get my cutting phase off the ground.

Started 2023 with a very nice mostly Delorme routine. Nothing to failure yet, but took top sets to RPE 8-9. Not sure if 3 sets per exercise will be enough. I'll see how it goes.

DB Row: 75x10/10, 90x5/5, 105x10/10
DB Preacher Curl: 20x10/10, 25x10/10, 35x10/10 ss with
Straight Arm Pulldown: 85x20, 95x15, 105x15

Lightning Rounds x 15 with 30 seconds rest between each (HOLY CRAP!!!)
TBDL: 235x3
Ab Wheel x 5

Other cardio (treadmill, walking): 45 minutes

Bodyweight: 162.1

• Decent moderate intensity (RPE 7-8 for top sets) session, except for the lightning rounds, which will no doubt keep me wiped out beyond the weekend.
• Except for the LRs, volume and intensity were a little low this first week of my cycle, so I think I'll highlight two compounds per workout -- specifically, those I feel will make me stronger and improve aesthetics -- and push them harder. I did this in December with great results. Ready to rumble.

Cybex Eagle Ab: 150x20, 170x20
Other Cardio (walking): 30 minutes

Bodyweight: 162.4

• Productive session. Loads and/or reps progressed from week one, and final sets taken to RPE 9-10.
• Although I'll continue to hit all exercises hard, the most effort will go into the incline bench press and T bar row.
• Free Motion Bicep and Tricep machine exercises are much better done seated, for some reason.

Arthritis in my hands, wrists, neck, and lower back was horrible this morning, and I forgot to take a pain killer. So, my moneymaker reps were sloppy and torturous. Surprisingly, I hit some decent numbers anyway. The last few lightning rounds were beastly.

Al, your training while working around issues continues to inspire.

Life Fitness Side Lateral: 40x30, 65x15, 95x12
T-Bar Row (neural grip): 135x10, 180x10, 200x6, 160x10
Nautilus Incline BP (neutral grip): 135x10, 225x5, 275x9
Hammer Strength Incline BP: 100x10, 150x10
Belt Squat: 135x10, 185x5, 255x15
Life Fitness Seated Alernate Cable Curl: 60x15, 70x10, 60x11
Life Fitness Seated Tri Pressdown: 60x12, 70x11, 70x6

Cybex Eagle Ab: 170x20, 190x90
12" Box Jump: 5x8, 10x10
Cardio (walking): 40 minutes

Bodyweight: 162.4

• Pretty good day. Increased loads on almost every exercise, and increased sets on three.
• Compared Nautilus to Hammer Strength incline bench press stations. The former has the more shoulder friendly neutral grip and what feels like a more fluid arc, but the pump was much better from the latter, even with lighter loads. I would switch to Hammer, but since I could feel my shoulders were about to give way with 125 lbs less weight, I don't know if that would be wise.
• Like the Nautilus incline, using the neutral grip on the T-bar row enabled me to lift more weight.
• I am wayyy too old to jump with weights, but I felt like trying it anyway. Picked the lowest box in the gym for obvious reasons.

Always an inspiration to catch up with your training, Al. Not having ventured into box jumps yet, I'd say picking the lowest box in the gym was a pretty smart move.

Thanks, Merv. I've never tried jumping while carrying weights before, so even the low jump was a bit scary.
