01-19-12 01:31 PM - Post#720795

You got to chew them which is kind of a test to your bravery. About 10 more or less a day.
It don't matter

Guilty, I seem to get a better pump with them taken before a workout.

Dessicated liver - sounds sort of like the Alpo diet.

I prefer to call it desecrated liver....

I do! Keep a few in my pocket in case I get hungry. And for my dog likes them...oddly.

Ha ha ha my wife thinks I should buy the liver tabs at the pet store instead... she also says I've got the taste buds of a garbage disposal.

I'm a little anemic right now so I'm eating my NSP Liver Tabs instead of buying an iron supplement pills. 👍😄

Is desicated liver made from raw liver?
07-27-12 05:26 PM - Post#740997

I'm considering going as raw as possible with my diet for some personal reasons.

I want to continue to eat my liver tabs but am wondering if dessicated liver is made from raw liver?

I did not wonder about this before.

Thanks in advance!

No, it's not cooked. Raw-only is ... unconventional. :)

  • Quoting:
Today, desiccated defatted liver is whole beef liver that has been concentrated using a vacuum and freeze drying process, utilizing no heat in the procedure. This process concentrates the nutritional content while removing the fat, connective tissues, and water without destroying any of the healthful ingredients via heat.

That's from this excellent and informative post:
http://www.davedraper.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/4594/

So, are you aiming at raw-only, all your meals?

Perfect, thank you - all I needed to know.

For some reason I thought it was cooked liver that was then vacuumed and created into powder.

Good to know it's from the original raw state!

Another question, is liver heated in the process?

(Trying to find actual articles on the entire process).

Man, I'm having one heck of a hard time finding anything substantial on that. Three times, for 15 minutes each, and still nothing decent.

Please do post if you find something.
It's crazy, but it's driving me crazy.

Kind of off track there on your link.

There is absolutely nothing there about the process of making dessicated liver.

Thanks, But I was not asking advice on going raw. I was asking about Liver Tabs.

Feel free to start a thread on the subject though if you like.

Thanks for sharing, honestly, I do appreciate it.

But again, if you would like to start a topic on the pros and cons of going raw, then please start another thread.

Allow me to remind you of the thread title:

"Is dessicated liver made from raw liver?"

And we are now onto trying to find out the entire process of the creation of dessicated liver (whether it's heated or not).

So if you can help with this then I'd super-appreciate it.

Hey Neander,

I didn't find the entire process, but I think I did find the answer to the "no heat" question that I had.

Here (http://www.earthclinic.com/Supplements/desiccate d-liver.html) under the "Multiple Cures" title (scroll down), in the last paragraph, it states the following:

"Desiccated liver is whole beef liver that has been concentrated using a vacuum and freeze drying process, utilizing no heat in the procedure. This process concentrates the nutritional content while removing the fat, connective tissues, and water without destroying any of the healthful ingredients via heat."

Oh, wait! Not sure why I didn't zero in on this -- are you talking about any kind of liver tabs? I can email Sandy Reidinger if you have any questions about their liver product:

Hi Laree,

Thanks for chiming in.

I use both Beverly and NSP's by Ron Kosloff.

Since they both use "Argentine" beef liver then yes it would be nice to find out how exactly it is processed over there.

Please do, Laree, it'd be appreciated here.
And John, thanks to this I'm going to start taking liver tabs again. One of the few supps I've had nothing but good results with.

Ditto on that!

So long as I eat around 20+ per day (I chew them throughout the day) then I feel more endurance.

And not just on exercise, but with my work as a writer and researcher - I can focus twice as long.

I also tend not to take naps when I keep up my liver abs, worry less and have a stronger libido (always a good thing!)

And the answer, per Sandy Riedinger of Beverly International, is... yes, the liver is raw. There's a drying system that removes both water and fat.

Thanks, Laree!
I wonder if there's any way a human could go through that system and live. You're cutting the fat and drying out on a conveyor belt or something. Nah, it'd never work.

Anyhow, I have 1,000 tabs en route, can't wait to start in on them again and that's no drop in the bucket. Bad white mice pun.

Yes thanks Laree - much appreciated!

Good to know they are raw, de-fatted, and through a non-heated process.

Raw does not necessarily mean non-heated. Freeze drying often involves some level of heat as part of the process to remove water (check Wikipedia for a description), but not enough to cook the product.

I'm getting pretty smooth at swallowing two liver tabs, three fish oil caps and a large Vitamin C tablet all at once. Wow. The way I can swallow pills I woulda made a good late 70's neurotic housewife.

Anyhows, my new line for any injury, being too tired to train, whining about life, any of it, is "Take a liver tab!" The old salt pill line's been replaced finally.
