Hi, friends!

It’s time to make the hard decision about our 20-year-old forum. The forum software is ancient, built on proprietary software that will eventually fail. I’d like to keep the site and forum live as an archive and database of material for us and maybe even the next generation of weight training enthusiasts.

To protect that, we'll have to close the forum, meaning no more logins, private topics, posts or new memberships. It will stay open until February 28 to give you time to wrap up things, sign off on your logs and get email addresses of people you correspond with… whatever you need to finalize your use here. The intent is to keep the posts and threads online forever (whatever that means in internet time), so you'll be able to return to review our old material.

Please tell your old IronOnline friends who no longer come on the forum if you think they might want a chance to say goodbye before we lock things down. And thank you one and all for your incredible friendship over the past couple of decades. Our camaraderie has been a remarkable success and I’m proud to have been a part of it.

Laree

PS: Dan and his danjohnuniversity.com partner are offering a discount for IronOnline forum members if you’d like to move your forum time over there. Use the code DRAPER at https://danjohnuniversity .com/ .

It's been a real privilege to learn from all of you.
"I think we often spend too much time focusing on max fitness
and not nearly enough on maintaining our minimums.
It seems we need to think sustainable rather than obtainable.
Meaning whatever we do today, we can do it again tomorrow.
Never taking so much from ourselves that we can't."

This is sad. I accidentally "stumbled" on this board some years ago and I was immediately welcomed by everyone. I had been to many different boards around the web but always felt out of place but not here. I have learned so much from everyone here, I will be forever grateful for that. Thanks Laree and everyone that has ever posted!

Sad, but time continues to move on, always changing. Laree, you have been terrific and deserve the retirement you desire. I wish you all the best. Many thanks for all the good times.

Maybe a thread for those who want to contribute, the web sites they like and why, would be helpful.

Who'd have thought a forum for older power lifters and bodybuilders would be of benefit to an endurance athlete? Of all the places I've lurked on the internet over the past 20 years, this forum had more influence on me than anywhere else.

A giant thank you to everyone here, from Laree and the admins to everyone posting questions and answers. I cannot express my gratitude enough for the last 10-ish years of conversations. This has easily been one of the most wholesome and helpful forums on the internet.

Wow!! What a bummer... I have lurked here for years. I have posted very infrequently because I didn't need to. All of my questions were already answered by the experienced and knowledgeable forum members here.

At 56, I have found that the DMPM and some walking is the answer to most fitness questions.

Thanks to all you!!

Hey, Laree, some of the old crowd had trouble logging in. Steve Wedan asked me to post this:

"I’ve planned for ten years or more to involve myself again in IOL, and now I read that it’s closing down. That’s more than bad timing. It’s a case of allowing other things to crowd out something I treasured for years, and I regret it.

"I made friends here, and I learned a lot due to civil exchanges regarding what we all love. IOL was for a time an ever-present refuge for me.

"I wish Laree and everyone else on here happy travels to wherever life takes you."
Be strong. Be in shape. Be a man among men, regardless of your age or circumstances.

If someone can’t remember their password and the password reset doesn’t send an email, it usually means the email address in the system is old. If anyone needs to get ahold of me for a reset (or anything else), I still use ld@davedraper.com and can help.

Thanks for passing along Steve’s message, Al. He was a huge addition to our early email group and forum days. So glad I got to meet him!

Laree, thank you for nurturing and supporting one of the friendliest places on the entire internet.

Thanks to everyone. If you want to reach me, I'm on captainrobbo at gmail dot com

I know all about supporting old software and understand how hard it gets. I run a small software firm and have some resources. If you'd like any help to at least make sure the site archive is backed up in multiple independent places, and maybe reloaded into some future system, drop me a line.

Thank you! The guy who built the otpbooks.com site, including the backend digital delivery setup, will take care of this for us. I think we’re in good hands, but will be in touch if he gets jammed up with anything. Thanks again for another example of how great this group is.

This is sad news, but the only constant in life is constant change.

Thanks to everyone on this forum for tolerating my unnecessarily long rambling posts. You have all helped fundamentally change my mindset and the way I approach training for the better.

Only been here for the last 3 or so years, but better late than never. I'm so glad I found this place. I don't think there's any other place like it for washed up trainees or real people trying to balance this hobby we all enjoy with the real stressors and challenges of life.

You all will be missed.

I've actually had luck with creating private groups for hiking in the Grand Canyon. Make it tough to find and pre-screen the people trying to get in. Have made a few lifelong friends that way. Groups is about the only reason to stay on FB now.

I personally like Discord better than FB groups, but I'd also be up for that.

Edit: another thought is a public or private subreddit, would match the format of this forum well.

Well we have 10 days to decide. I've never used Discord, I'll have to check it out. Thought about Reddit, but don't have the time to moderate when I'm working. Seen things get out of hand fast over there.

Excellent point about moderation, I don't want to get anywhere near that.

No reason to choose an either/or, I created a FB group and Discord server, anyone's welcome to join either or both or none. Both should be searchable under the name "Dan John Deck".

The times I have posted here have been because of Dan's general reminder to everyone to try things out and share.

I certainly benefit from everyone sharing their experiences in that regard. I like having anecdotes to help guide decision making.

Glad this forum was able to exist for so long.
