There is a channel on you tube that shows some of Dr Leonard Schwartz's work on strength endurance including heavy hands plus some other equipment

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU5Aswa-yeq2 WklBng9PSNQ or look up panaerobic longstrength on youtube if you dislike following ambiguous links

It's a great site. John McKean died recently and his articles are still on the site, maybe "longstrength?"

Thank you for sharing...

I've watched those videos, and Dr. Schwartz was the real deal. I've figured out a reasonable version of the squat/row using a TRX. However, the dip/good morning is still elusive.

To me the "Pump & Walk" is still the best bang for the buck, but "Longstrength" is a great change of pace. YMMV

PS, there is a book on Kindle called, "Strength Endurance" that I've found interesting.

I have that book, too.

There are a few things in the HH world that are simply gamechanging for me. Others...not so much.

Walking with HH was/is the biggie.

Another idea, a mix of ideas, is to walk with gloves and a garbage sack and pick up litter. I did that with a weight vest once and I was sore for days...

John McKean was the OG of what I have been doing: his training was basically ES and HH. It's what I do now.

Go for a walk. Do Heavy Hands. Swing a kettlebell. Embrace weighted carries. (Stretch...Bar Hang, Saigon Squat, Brettzel)

Well, there it is, DMPM Version 2.0, YMMV.

I did the Longstrength squat-pull-up and dip-Good Morning as a warm-up a few years back. Felt great. Here's a link to one Of John's articles, great stuff.

"You see, many of the keys to strength, fitness, and body development can be found in the warmup."

Now where have I heard something like before...

He recommends a 5 to 1 ratio, how many of us have that backwards. Years back, I use to wash and dry my wife's SUV on Sunday mornings. That was my warm-up to heavy pull day.

I remember Dr. Schwartz writing enthusiastically about double ski poling.

The mix seemed to be long sessions (30+ minutes) of Heavy Hands walking, with some Heavy Hands medley, double ski poling, or some such, thrown in sporadically for up to 5ish minutes.

There was, as well, Heavy Hands dance.

3-4 30 minute HH sessions is the goal. I believe it's doable for most trainee's. That said, I doubt few will stick with it to accomplish even one 30 minute session.

I finally tried HH yesterday on the treadmill with 3 lb dumbbells. It lit up some (apparently!) underworked part of my forearm and 3 minutes was enough for me. This morning I did 4 minutes. I intend to do this at the end of easy strength-style sessions and so I will build up time very slowly.

There was something that piqued my interest in that moment where the arm swings back while you're driving off the opposite foot... like a little taste of what it feels like when sprinting feels really good. I want to do more of that and see what happens for me.

That's strange...the forearm tiredness. Are you overgripping?

The fatigue is just in front of where the bicep attaches, on "top" if you hold a thumbs up position. It's a different location from the muscles I'd use when doing "crushing grip" stuff.

I will add time slowly and give the movement efficiencies time to emerge. That's really the fun part of trying new stuff like this - when you find something that just makes your body work better.

Go a little lighter with your weight (2 pound) for a bit and stick with Level 1 or 2.
