Jon Jon's Wheel of Health & Fitness

1. Mental attitude & discipline
2. Consistency
3. Sleep, rest & recovery
4. Nutrition (the Mediterranean diet; supplements)
5. Cardiovascular exercise
6. Stretching & flexibility
7. Resistance training

Jon Jon's Training Cycle for the Older Trainee

Three cycles: one week on each; three weeks too long for older trainee
Strength
In-between
Conditioning

3-4 days per week/every other day

One exercise per bodypart for three sets

Change exercises on each cycle

Split:
Chest/rear delt/back
Legs/shoulders
Biceps/triceps

Cardio on non-resistance days & followed by abs

Week 1 Heavy cycle
Upper body compound exercises (e.g. bench & row)
1 x 5 (60% 5RM; “12 rep weight”)
1 x 5
1 x more reps (80% 5RM)

Secondary exercises (biceps & triceps) 8 reps

Legs - use higher reps – 12 reps
Calves – 15-20 reps

Week 2 Medium cycle
Upper body compound exercises 8 reps per set
Upper body secondary exercises 12 reps

Legs 15-20 reps

Week 3 Light cycle
Upper body – compound & secondary exercises - 12-15 reps
Legs

Maybe two exercises each bodypart on light cycle; or supersets

Jon Jon is now 65. During this interview he said he used this protocol to gain 15 pounds over three to four months about seven years ago i.e. when he was around 57 or 58.

I recall a great episode of Ric Drasin's show featuring Jon Jon Park. His discussion of training then was along similar lines, as I remember. I wouldn't be surprised if it's still up on YouTube.
