Those of you who went to the Scranton bash or saw the pictures will remember King Joe's gym where we gathered, and especially Joe patiently coaching our beginner O lifters outside our lunch hall at the park. I got a note this morning from Byron that Joe died on the 29th at age 94.

Joe spent his last months in a nursing home. Byron was talking to Joe's son a few weeks ago and this morning Byron wrote about the nursing home and his talk with Tony:

"It was the place right down the road from his house. Tony showed me pictures of Joe teaching the nuns cross country skiing. A bunch of nurse nuns in the traditional habits, with skis and ski poles, trekking around on the snow-covered grounds of the funeral home. Absolutely surreal, unless you knew Joe, in which case it looked like a regular winter day."

Rest in peace, dear Joe, and thank you for your great hospitality.

Joe was an exceptionally special and terrific human being. I had a good time with him and his "gang" one evening. I still have my "Golden Girl" plates one of them made me. Byron made that BASH one of my favorites. Wonderful memories. RIP

Thanks for letting us know, Laree. I have fond memories of that weekend, meeting "Cajin" John Baron, "AmamzonBlonde", "W. Willie", the whole gang and of course you. I had never seen lifts done with such correct form and precision as Joe did patiently demonstrate for us. You could tell that Spartan gym was a magical place where great things could happen.

Rest In Peace, Joe. I never met you, but I wish I had.
Be strong. Be in shape. Be a man among men, regardless of your age or circumstances.

He was a character, to be sure. Definitely old school and a wealth of practical knowledge. I enjoyed the short time in his gym, which had a very comfortable feel about it.
"I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in."

"Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:
no man comes to the Father, but by me." John 14:6

That's too bad. Met him at the dinner with Byron and a few others. Nice guy. Was looking forward to seeing him at the competition at Lost Battalion Hall in my old neighborhood, but he tore a bicep or some other injury and could not compete. Byron Sid it was his first time out due to injury.
RIP
