Over on instagram, I made a post and read my forward. coachdanjohn

I have heard the term "heavy heart" a million times in my life, but today I feel it. When Laree left me a "call me!" text, I think I knew.

Dave was my hero. I would hope he considered me his friend. My heart goes out to Laree. She is the best of us.

If I wasn't clear, Dave Draper died today. He is in that rare air of our world: a person of kindness AND a body of knowledge...as well as a body of muscle.

Enough for now. Let's gather together soon and remember him.

My deepest sympathies to you, Laree.

This is a very sad day, indeed.

This is really sad to hear.

My sincere condolences to Laree and family.

Dave had a unique way of writing. I used to receive his weekly newsletter via email. Whenever a topic of his resonated with me, I would email Dave a quick reply. This was probably once a year.

Dave would always reply back almost immediately despite the massive time difference in his own mystic way with words.

I'm so sorry about the loss, may he rest in peace. Never had the pleasure of meeting Dave, but loved his writings. Sending my greatest condolences to Laree and family in this time.
This, too, shall pass

I'm so sorry for your loss. I didn't know him personally, but he's the reason I started lifting. There was something about the way Dave wrote and interacted with the readers on this site - no judgement, no pretense, just a genuine interest in answering our questions and sharing his knowledge with us. He made you feel like you belonged, no matter where you were in your journey. That's something the world (both the "fitness" world and otherwise) could use a lot more of now.

My condolences to Laree and family for their loss. Allowing Dan to run this forum on Dave's website shows the kind of giving and supportive person he was. Even though I didn't know much about Dave myself, his generosity in that regard really impacted my life and helped me find the balance I need in my training.

RIP.

Not sure if others have seen it, but Arnold posted a nice tribute to Dave on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CW6vUlwveST/?utm_so urce=ig_web_copy_link

"Dave Draper was an inspiration to millions of people all over the world, including me. He was one of my idols. In Austria, I kept his cover of Muscle Builder magazine on the wall above my bed for motivation, and when I saw him starring in “Don’t Make Waves”, I thought, “My dreams are possible.” When I got to America and finally met Dave, I learned his heart was as big as his pecs. He even hand-built my first furniture when I moved to Santa Monica, and let me tell you, he was talented. Can you imagine meeting your idol and becoming his training partner and traveling all over the world together? I was in heaven. He couldn’t have been more welcoming, and he was a fantastic training partner who always pushed everyone around him in the gym to be better. He was an amazing writer and a great family man. I will miss the Blond Bomber, but his memory will always be with me. My thoughts are with Laree and the whole family."

I hope words like this are a comfort to you, Laree, and anyone else who is missing Dave right now. Speaking of Laree, is there anything we as a community can do for her?

I am sorry for your loss and thinking of you and your family. All of our stories end, but the one he wrote will certainly endure and continue to be an inspiration for many.
