Not sure where the 100 days thing for incoming presidential administrations became a thing, Kennedy? LBJ? But inspired by that tradition, what are your plans for training and health? 100 days takes us to the end of April.

(I forgot to start the New Year’s thread, though we had a great thread looking back over 2020, so here we go)

Assuming the pandemic situation improves with increasing vaccination, public health measures become more widely accepted etc. what’s on tap?

I’m continuing with my 2+2+2

5/3/1 2 Day
2 Days Conditioning: DMPM Fobbits and heavy hands ruck
2 Days Nordic Rucking

Through March. Then I’ll shift the non lifting days to more bike focused days to rebuild a bike base through spring.

I’ve got my eye on a couple of races that were even able to go off with pandemic restrictions. First one in early April the Mudslinger near Corvallis, so hopefully I can visit my niece at OSU, covid willing.

How much planning are you up to?

Okay, I'm in. I have some specialized training I will be participating in towards the end of April. I will need to be in good to very good shape. To put a point on it, my dead ass needs to be in shape, or as good as I can be. YMMV

Because of my self-imposed equipment limitations I have had to split the DMPM into workable chunks.

Monday/Thursday - Two-Hand Swing/Farmer's Walk Super Sets. Just like it looks. One high rep set of swings followed by a set of Farmer's walk.
Tuesday/Friday - Goblet Squat/Push-Up/TRX Row Giant Sets. Once again, just as it looks. Back to back to back. No mercy.
Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday - Easy Steady State Cardio

My observations and results will be posted. I will evaluate my exercise choices towards the end of next month. (Read that to be: The goal is to keep the goal the goal.)
Mark it Zero.

What do you consider "high reps" on swings?

B) Total Body Isometric W/O using worldfit Iso Strap (4-6 Exercises, 4x6 protocol) 15 Minutes-ish
C) Choose 1 of following: 30/30 W/O, Air Dyne Tabata, Bike Sprint 8s, Heavy Bag Rounds, Various Carries

4 Days:
------
Cardio: Nordic Walk or Heavy Hand walk or Easy Fat Bike or nature hike

Nothing on the workout side. I like the way things are going.

On wellness side, lost 15 lb. Been on the wagon since the beginning of December, so continue that.

I am on sabbatical this semester, which an interesting but slightly weird concept to the rest of the non-academic world. That leaves me the opportunity to pursue whatever I would like.
I will be doing GMB's Mobius program along side my martials arts training. I will fill in whatever minimal strength work that Mobius doesn't hit and also try to spend a lot of time walking and being outdoors. If I finish Mobius before the 100 days is up, I may start the updated version of Elements. I did it last summer but got a new version for free when they updated it.
Interestingly my sabbatical project is exploring how to decrease sedentary time (beyond just adding formal exercise) and how movement variety (beyond what is in most formal exercise programs) affects health.

Not sure if foreigners qualify, but I'll be happy if I'm consistently running 40 miles per week then, and very happy if I get to 50. Got to be repeatable, though. Hopefully weight will drop in the process and my lifts won't get worse.

Drop ~15 lbs. I am so blindingly fast that not one single Christmas cookie or candy came close to getting past me!!

Training is going well; running a Geoff Neupert clean & press program and will resume rucking. After the Neupert program I'll KB snatch and Front Squat more.

Funny rucking story: after Hurricane Zeta flooded my storage room I cleaned up, etc. My first subsequent ruck was tough. I had to rest against a grass bank 7 minutes at the 3.1 mile point, then got up and made the last mile. A few days later, I'm repacking my 70 lb ruck. I use five or six big towels that keep the weight high on my back; they were soaked!! I had been toting well over 90 lbs!!

Just my 2¢

Regain strength and some size after inguinal hernia surgery in early December. Using a program that Dan Martin posted a chunk of years ago on the old Garage Gym Iron Page. Twice a week

Press
Squat
Dumbbell Bench Press
Lat-pulldown
Stiff-leg Dead Lift
Dumbbell Curl
Bent-arm Pullover
Calf Raise

Lose 20 pounds(228 in Nov/Dec, now at 222). Keep my maintenance going (currently a variation of DMPM 3 days). Continue loose fasting and WFPB lifestyle. Crush 4th semester as I did the previous semesters. Stay the course, a thousand points of light, stay the course.

In the next 100 days? Well that's May 1.

Drop 30 pounds. Hit twice weekly long walks, twice weekly weights.

(The weight loss is about food, of course, not the exercise)

Would that Geoff Neuport programme be "the giant" ?

It's going to be my next programme after I work on some asymmetries.

.Basic S&C until my lazy right side starts working better.

.The giant C&P programme.

. Kettle bell burn 2.0 by Geoff

. Total body blast also by Geoff.
A heavily ETK inspired programme which I will work through with the 16kg,20kg,24kg

Way more then 100 days but there we are.

For some reason I had it in my head it was JFK, but FDR makes more sense.

In any case, the 100 days for this thread is meant to be a look forward for the year, covid included. For those of us who do a seasonal periodization, that puts us into spring and hopefully good weather.

What’s goin’ on for now, and what’s on tap for later, virus willing?

I have my plans for 2021 but this thread and accountability that follows could get me to create some much harder goals that are actually not really needed but could be fun and make my 2021 journey quite more effective.

Need to think about it

I'm planning to go for the May 8th Tactical Strength Challenge and will base building for most of the 100 days with A+A Snatches, Grease the Groove Pullups and Easy Strength Deadlifts. I haven't decided what, if any, peaking to do the last few weeks. I should also walk more and lose 10 or 15 pounds.

You are correct, sir! Ran The Giant 2.0 with double 24kgs and am now redoing it with double 28's. The 28's are definitely my "juuuuust about Goldilocks" bells. When I was wrapping up the double 24 Giant my traps, shoulders, and arms were noticeably thicker. It's a tough program but it works!

You have quite a full plate, Gearball. More than 100 days but that's great!! I'm anxious to hear about your results; I'm positive you'll make some serious progress.

I started the pushup calendar challenge on New Years Day (one additional pushup each day, so 22 today). Have started it a couple times but crapped out before midway. So maybe I'll use this as movitation to at least make it to 120!

Four weeks into fatherhood, so the next 100 days will be lots of humane burpees and stealing easy runs in when I can, probably 20 to 30 miles a week. Already got the kiddo out in the carseat adapter in the BOB last week, she slept most of the 4 miles (I live directly on a very flat, well paved bikepath, doc said it would be safe, or at least no less safe than having her in the carseat in the car).

Got a group of regular malcontents and rabble rousers planning a Grand Canyon "Rim to Rim to Rim" run/hike in mid May, so will need to start bumping up mileage and hills somewhere in March, April at the latest.

Cheers!

I've got a hilly 112 mile bike ride planned for the summer (all depending on Covid restrictions), so the next 100 days will be finishing up base training, moving over to a cycling build program, leaving 8 weeks for a speciality program between May and the event. The base, build and speciality programs consist of 3 rides a week using the training software Trainerroad. I'm also going to practice riding my new enduro mountain bike on some steep and sketchy hills, and strength training will be mostly kb snatches and a few goblet squats.

I am working on a modified RoP. C&P, BW Chin Ups, BW Pistol Squats as a slow circuit using the HLM ladders. Slow paced but longer duration man makers with swings and stationary bike on variety days. Same bell as on the C&P.

I started with the 24kg KB doing 5 ladders right away, will do 11 week cycles and try to make 4kg jumps. So by end of April I will hopefully nearing the end of my cycle with the 28kg KB.

100 Days
01-23-21 09:03 AM - Post#907093

Been dealing with COVID with my wife and 2 sons, so time for recuperation. I´m projecting for the next 100 days or more the following:

1 - Clean day (1 hand, two hands, EMON, density sets,...go by feeling and park bench mentality, go slow)
2 - armor building complex (1kb or 2kbs, same filosophy as above)
3 - Clean & Press day same filosophy as day 1)
4 - Squat day (same filosophy as day 1)
5 - OS resets, yoga, streching, mobility
Every day i´ll do some pull ups, ab roller, planks and carrys, and push ups or burpees.

Try to do this calm and easy, lt´s see how it goes..

The Goal: I bougth in december 2x 24kg Kettlebell, by summer i hope doing armor building complex and lots of sets of C%P with both.

Keep safe people

Great thread!
I’m on the bus bench for the next 100+ days in preparation for the Appalachian Trail 4-state challenge in May. Then I’ll back off for a couple months and build again for either a Rim-to-Rim or Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim in October. I’d love to hear some advice from SpiderLegs and other R2 vets.
Currently doing 3 days of S&C, 2 ride/run/ruck and a weekly long hike (10-20’ish miles). Some mobility and cold showers daily.

Hi all. 100 days are up. Just wondering how people got on?

I wanted to be running 40 miles per week; I haven't hit that, but am consistently doing 30, and managed one week at 55. I'm doing speedwork and hard cardio weekly, feeling springy and getting faster again, taking part in group training and eagerly awaiting a first race. I hope the rest of you have made some satisfying progress too....

Pushup challenge still intact (done 50 so far of the scheduled 124 today).

Training for Rim to Rim to Rim went about as well as it could have. Averaged probably 45 to 50 miles a week over the past couple months, biggest week was 69 miles with 10k feet of gain. Our big effort during the block was 31 miles with 5k of gain. Feel about as prepared as I could have hoped. May 15th is the date, biggest x factor will be the weather.

Also plenty of the flat miles have been with baby, she's a rockstar in the BOB. Waiting for her to get a bit more head control so I can start getting her on some trails.

I managed some really consistent bike training, with power levels creeping up over the 100 days. The event I was training for is postponed until next year though, which I suppose is good news as “I'm also going to practice riding my new enduro mountain bike on some steep and sketchy hills” didn’t work out too well :)

I didn't originally participate in the thread back in January, but for grins and giggles decided to look back at my log since 1/21 (when this thread started, and thanks vegpedlr!) and see that I have had 47 training sessions in the last 100 days.

Overall, I'm the most pain-free and mobile I have been in a long time. And although I haven't tested any capabilities in any objective way recently my goal over the winter was to remain consistent which I'm happy to report has been met. Largely, I've taken a park bench approach and tried to keep mobility and loaded carries as a staple in my training while venturing out here and there as ideas strike me.

I'm reminded of Dan's "a little, often, over the long haul" view and am proud to say I've been living it this past year (and 100 days). And bonus, once I get into the new house I'll have room for outdoor fun like sled work, sprinting, and whatever else comes to mind.

So, thanks to everyone here for the inspiration and camaraderie. Even if we haven't directly interacted I find all of you to be extremely motivating and educational.

I didn't 'sign up' as such but pleased to have been consistent.

I am always one of these guys that knows he is doing too much when my lower back starts to speak to me.

Touch wood, back is good all the time.
Much of my time has been using a short relatively low impact session in the AM and PM....I have been exploring Isometrics in loaded stretch positions in addition to my OS work.

Little wins:
ISO lunge long hold went from 90 seconds to 3 minutes per side.
Standing single leg balance from 3 minutes to 6.
Bottom of pushup from 60 seconds to 120.
Hanging from 30 (I hang on a staircase overhang. My hands are in an upside down L shape) to 80 seconds.

Lots of gait and rotational work and loading of the diaphragm.

We test today was an 8 mile forefoot run. Soleus is speaking to me, but I was pleased with how easy my breathing felt throughout.

As always consistency trumps intensity for me and my clients.

Training is going well; running a Geoff Neupert clean & press program and will resume rucking. After the Neupert program I'll KB snatch and Front Squat more.

The day of my first post, I did clean/press ladders with double 28kg bells. Five ladders of 4, 6, 8 reps, then 4 ladders of 3, 4, 5 reps and finished with 9 reps. All in 30:30.

I didn't lose the weight. I actually gained ~3 lbs. That said, I have finished Geoff Neupert's "The Giant" 1.0 and 1.1 with double 32kg bells. Yesterday, I tried double 36's and got a 7 and 9 rep set, part of 60 total reps in 30 minutes.

Easter Sunday, a nice dress shirt barely streetttccchhed across my back and my "yoke" and arms have grown considerably. Exciting stuff at 57.

Funny where a fork in the road takes you when you stay with that fork.....
Just my 2¢

I fell off toward the end, s I often do in spring. Kept plodding along at 5/3/1 making steady progress until I plateaued with every plate I own on on the trap bar, so 280# for a double. Reassessed and was ready to take the proverbial step back to keep moving forward.

And stuck in neutral.

Things I discovered: 5/3/1 worked well, DMPM Fobbits were fun, swings, carries, and rucks were good in all sorts of combos. The “heavy limbs” of ankle weights plus 5# on each hand was a bust. It wasn’t much fun, I couldn’t ruck at the same time because of chafing against the pack, and couldn’t figure what, if anything, was being accomplished. I may revisit this in the future, but for now stick to simpler things.

Now, nearly Fully Vaccinated, I’ve made a big lifestyle change with weird hours which will make sleep a challenge. So I need to keep things real simple and basic until my body adjusts to the weird schedule. I might have to keep it minimalistic through the holidays, who knows.

So I’m focused on The 100 Days of Summer, with the goal of continuing with my Barbell goals and rebuilding an aerobic base with MTB.

So, 5/3/1 Two Day Nor Doing Jack S— with a third day for assistance work. Two days of in, two main lifts plus pull ups, and out. One day of a barbell complex plus some rowing and rucking. The rest of the week for endurance, nothing epic, just reasonable fun rides and try to explore some the region’s trails that the pandemic kept me off.
