I got a new bell, 24kg. I'm running the gambet of videos on the utube.

I found one with a guy, he has a following, who seems to be swinging the bell short. Seems to have the shrug locked in as the swing and there's even a bit of curl in the arms, they aren't straight. It looks awkward but I don't know much about those kinds of specifics.

This common or some kind of mod perhaps?

This isn't a Valery Fedorenko style swing you're talking about, is it?

Even that one makes sense to me.

Some things kind of look ok when this guy does it. His initials are M.M. I don't really want to put him on blast, it just looks weird and I'm just not sure.

I thought maybe there was something to it I was missing that I hadn't seen.

Here's a couple videos I just watched from Dan John:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zswffz5Rn64

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfAOwzkeveQ

In the second video, he's solid and tight. Nothing loosie-goosie there at all. I'm guilty of having a bend in my elbow at times at the top of the swing and not quite a plank. Guess I'll lower my bell weight and get better at that.

And I think that's pretty key. Coming up on your toes, weird shrugs, and disconnecting parts of the body is asking for injury.

I've done a similar movement shown in the Fedorenko video (high pulls) but even they were more solid and were used as a step toward the snatch.

I'm talking that guy into a swing with headphones on during a podcast.

Optimal.

I need to run out and write a blog post about the "Tactical Gunner's Swing", done with a cable machine attached to the side of one's head. It was designed for machine gunners to be able to fire out the side of a banking helicopter, but is essential for golfers, elite youth athletes, knitting, and anyone else who wants to perform at their absolute best. I'm going to use a gif from that podcast video to show how it's taking the fitness world by storm.

He might have changed his tune over the years, but Fedorenko originally said that pretty much the only use for a swing was as preparation for the snatch, which is why he does it more as a high pull. The tension/tightness issue is, I believe, more one of philosophy and goals.

I know, right?
M.M.???
Is it Marilyn Manson?
Since the lockdown he's been doing a lot of fitness videos on the tubes.
