Thank you. I hope people realize that when I recommend a work, it should be on the shelves for a while...ideally!

https://openlibrary.org/books/OL5045125M/Wres tling_physical_conditioni ng_encyclopedia.

This is a way to read this book for free & also good to decide if you wish to add it to your collection as it isn't super cheap.

I think it may be my favourite out of all the recommendations.
Just got my physical copy today.

Also saves you loaning it out ;-)

I just saw this. What a great post.

Excluding all those books listed above, nearly 100% of which I've also purchased, let me add:

Weightlifting, Olympic Style and Championship Weightlifting by Tommy Kono
Fat Loss Happens on Monday by Dan and Josh Hillis

It feels like there must be others as well.

Dan, while not strictly training related, I read a book last year that made quite an impression on me and knowing you are a fan of The Sword in the Stone, you may (or may not) want to check it out.

It's a book called 'H is for Hawk' by Helen MacDonald. It's a biography and ties together someone coping with loss, trying to train a Goshawk and almost a shadow biography of T. H. White.

You may want to check it out, and you may or may not like it but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway. Not my usual type of read but definitely one of the more engaging and interesting books I've read of late.

Edit: My memory isn't what it was ... I've just seen the dedicated thread and realised I've already mentioned this book and you have already read it.

I need putting out to pasture clearly!

I read it...I didn't like the author's "attacks" on White. Denys Whistensay has a great line, something like this:

It is unfair to judge those of the past by the standards of the present.

Yeah, White had issues. But...so do we all!

I finished The Sword in the Stone not long ago. It was better and more finely wrought than I expected. I'm not at all a fan of modern young-adult fiction, and this book is a perfect contrasting example. Fantasy built out of great human wisdom, that respects the intelligence of children by inviting them into deeper adult experiences while remaining staunchly within their own terms. No overt (nor superficial) moralizing, and it couldn't have been written without White's deep understanding of the hawks and forests and customs. A book worth studying.

If anyone's interested, I'd highly recommend Salman Rushdie's two children's novels, which are similarly special: Haroun and the Sea of Stories, and Luka and the Fire of Life. For children, but not at all childish.

That's a great review. A fun book on YA Spy Stuff:

City Spies by James Ponti.

I have many books on many subjects. The first question is therefore which one do I read. The second question is inevitably which one do I like and why. The third question is paramount- which books do I do my best to put into practice and how?

DJs books on my Kindle are Easy Strength, The Hard Style Kettlebell Challenge and Intervention. I recommend them all and one day I might say more.

Today I want to add:
In the intro to HKC Mark Fisher writes "I consider Dan John our resident philosopher-poet-king."

I consider David Draper to be the "best of the bests". Moreover he is very funny, inspiring and I suspect he is a wise "hippie" soul. Focused on heavy loads he is lighthearted.

These two brothers changed my relationships with all sorts of "weight problems". How to move them , how to loose them, how to anything.
They walk their talk. I stress that especially.

Combined with sister incredible Laree who focused on bringing out the information to the mortal souls using different communication channels they are unbeatable.

I'll be ever so grateful to this one of a kind trio for their willingness to share, help, guide, provide and stand strong.
Aut viam inveniam aut faciam.

I read "Boyd" and "On Killing" on Coach DJ's recommendation. Both were amazing. I think I might have read "Born To Run" on DJ and Pavel's recommendation, but I can't remember for sure - this was also amazing.

I just read a new translation of Beowulf by Maria Headley. It's really good if you groove with the style. She won a Hugo for it, too, IIRC. It's also really worth reading her introductory essay.

Here is an article about it, for those interested: Link

The Complete Keys to Progress, I read that in my late 20s after buying it from Randall Strossen's company. Moffetone I have read as well. When I was swimming a few years back I was doing the Moffetone approach. I wanted to swim faster but couldn't. Moffetone it was!

The California Bodybuilding Scene made me pine for Los Angeles in years past. It is all good though.

In my teens I came across books concerning lifting. The one I wish I still had was a small book, by an English author on Olympic lifting. Well time to go read.
