Has anyone tried to build up to big poundages in the Goblet Squat?

What do you consider big poundages? I like doing sets of 20+ with a 100 pounder. I've done sets with a 150 before, but it gets awkward with a big bell. I saw Wendler say that some of his kids get up over 200 by adding chains to a 120 or something. Once it gets over a 100 or 120 I'd rather just do light front squats.

That's strong work! I was just curious, my heaviest K-Bell is 106, but I have 2 pairs of Olympic Dumbbell Handles (2" and Regular) that can be loaded pretty good.
I have no mobility for Barbell Front Squats, so I like Double Kettlebell Front Squats and Barbell Zercher Squats.

Only tried double kettlebell front squats once and was surprised at how hard they were. Think I used 62s or something and they each seemed to have a mind of their own. I would imagine double 106s would actually start to feel like a real strength exercise. Never tried Zerchers (and don't plan to).

Silverback, have you ever tried, or do you have access to, a safety squat bar (SSB)?? I know a lot of powerlifters that use these as a main movement when their shoulders are knackered and they require zero mobility. Seems like they would be much easier to push the load on than goblet squats if you have mobility issues with barbell squats.

Yes, Double Kettlebell Front Squats are very tough. Yes, I have my own Elite FTS SS Yoke Bar (SSB)

DKFS is the progression. You can be a pretty good O lifter and still get smacked by double 28s.

It's the "dangling" load that seems to add up. Past the 48 k, I think the GS isn't going to do much. You can see why I then shift to the Overhead Squat. Oddly, the two "flow."

Double Kettlebell Front Squats are the bomb.

That said, i was reminded of this program the other day, which does involve "building up" the goblet squat. Not sure it ever goes past 48k, but I guess you could keep pushing it.

I love DKBFS. I'm getting deeper than I can with any other squat, and just zero worries so far about tweaking the back. Great ab workout too.

I haven't gone beyond a 16kg+20kg = 36kg, shortly going to get a 24kg so I can go up to 44kg at home. 45 reps during the ABC is plenty enough squatting for a runner to keep their knees healthy.

Thanks for the inputs and links! I think my best bet is to keep pushing my Double Kettlebell Front Squats. They are an awesome strength builder!

What was the quad response to 20+ reps with 48kg?
Growth?
I have recently invested in a slant board.
Hammers the quads.

More conditioning than hypertrophy. It’s still only 100lbs. Always feel it more in glutes than quads the next day

One arm racked squats are a good variation as well. When I do heavy one arm or double front squats, it's holding the bells in the rack that gives out first.

Especially with 40kg and higher.

That is certainly an impressive display of strength. Whenever I see Zerchers though my first thought is always WHYYY?? They seem more like a party trick than something to train. I'd be curious to know if this guy actually trained Zerchers or just has a good squat and deadlift and was able to do this as a challenge.

Do you ever train Zerchers, Silverback?

They are no party trick! I first learned about Zerchers from a Louie Simmons video. I disagree with a lot of his stuff, but he is right about Zerchers.
Zerchers are a true Brute Strength, Armor Building exercise. Give them a try and see for yourself.

Yes, I do Zerchers. I have done a 365 from the bottom rack position. I am going to add the Zercher Lift to my weekly routine.
