About halfway through, you see the original sledded Litvinov idea. You can see how "un-one piece" a few people are when they get hit by the sled load...

Fun stuff. And, you see Lexie, of Blessed Memory, running toward my wife under the shade.

Thank you for posting this, Dan!
Always a pleasure to see the timeless ways, and the old place.

And the fact that your dogs seem to always be attracted to weight that's being thrown around!

Am I the only one who often confuses Gym Jones and Mountain Athlete?
"I think we often spend too much time focusing on max fitness
and not nearly enough on maintaining our minimums.
It seems we need to think sustainable rather than obtainable.
Meaning whatever we do today, we can do it again tomorrow.
Never taking so much from ourselves that we can't."

Did you see how "caught" most people get when they use the sled?

That might be the real lesson here; driving through the obstacle.

You can see I don't have an issue with it. It's made me wonder for a while "what I am teaching" here.

I’ve been wondering if the “X” is a movement/thing all on its own. I’d be fascinated to hear your thoughts on it. .

I really like these old Gym Jones videos. Hard work works -- who would have known? Also, over all the 300-hype, people sometimes seem to forget that Mark Twight was a phenomenal moutaineer. He _really_ walked the walk.

Dan, would you mind talking a bit more about working with them? What was it like?

Mark Twight's book Extreme Alpinism is worth a read also.

It was a good crew. The new group is fine, too.

I liked working with them; lot of people from out of town. Magazine guys, too, but they often simply didn't get it. "Look at me, look at me."

One thing, and I don't think anyone would argue this, they were not strong. Males with 300 pound deadlifts, horrid techniques in the Olifts.

So much of the programming was based on low lifts:

3 reps with 270
3 reps with 240
3 reps with 210...thinking it was 90, 80 and 70 % of max...but the 300 wasn't a max (obviously).

They could go without stopping though. It was impressive. I loved working with Mark. Great mind; absolute clarity.

These guys were all well read. Too much, in some ways: they would read everything and then attempt to do everything. It's no surprise xfit had an early impact. Fortunately, Mark figured out the bad side of xfit really early (beyond the cult stuff and the blind loyalty and the nonsense).

I think Mark and I worked well together. He knew the long hell stuff, I knew the pop.

It worked well.

Thanks, Dan. Mark certainly comes across as an intense guy.

I find it very entertaining when the training for 300 comes up. "Hey, how did he get those guys so ripped?" "Really hard workouts, caloric deficit, smart food choices." "No, there must be another way..."

Mark has a disc with the training on it. Low calorie, lots of daily hard work...but don't forget they were a group. They all, mostly, bought in.

The star did heavy anabolics and trained with a bodybuilder. It's obvious that it wasn't something that transformed and "stuck."

Oh Yeah! I know it'd look way worse for me, these guys all did much better than I would, but dang it, it's funny to see that hesitation, that second of body shock.

Hahaha, it's a "whoa moment"

The mention of Xfit makes me wonder if he was the guy I saw in a ski magazine years ago that was my first glimpse of Xfit. At the time, I couldn't quite figure it out, but had a hunch it might be really good for alpine skiers. After Xfit blew up, I wondered if that was what I read about. By then, I was firmly on the Maffetone endurance train. I know XF would destroy me in short order.
