How many of these sandwiches should one be eating per day? One between each meal? One per day? I'm on the first week of the plan, and it seems like a lot of empty calories. I've been eating 4 per day. I want to add mass but don't want to get fat in the process. I'm not worried about losing some definition, but don't want to end up with a gut.

I'm 6ft 210lb. and approximately 15% body fat. With the MMS program I would love to get up to 225. The heaviest I've ever been was 220 this past year but was getting soft. Losing the 10 pounds really helped bring out definition and i actually feel stronger.

What have you guys done that has worked for you? Does the need for the extra calories really go up as you progress through the workout? I know its going to get a lot more intense!

Given that your post has had 32 views so far, and no one has commented - allow me to add my 2cents worth - I'm half way through the program for my second time - and have to say this time has been more successful so far than the last.
Digressing from your question, I came into the program in a slightly different body state than last time, and was 4kg under my normal everyday bodyweight, I've since put this weight back on, and sandwiches have not been on the menu - I've no doubt they would have helped add another couple of kilos - but I'm trying to remain as low carb as I can, and not have too much processed food of any sorts - so the gains Ive been getting seem to be relatively good in that respect - admittingly, I've been consuming more protein shakes per day than the program prescribes, and taking up to 10 capsules of fish oil per day (which I don't notice any effects from at all btw).
I have been having peanut butter - primarily as a good fat and protein source - but mainly add it to smoothies with a frozen banana and blueberries with whey and full fat milk.

My advice for you, if you want to do the program for good gains and are not low carb, then one or two in between each meal will probably start to allow noticeable changes - don't worry about the accessory 'gains' during the program, you can cut that later on.

Workout 8 - trying to get 50reps with 100kgs on your back is a bit of a wake up call for sure!! Managed 20 reps, then 3sets of 10 - felt bulletproof afterwards though :-)

Thanks for the reply!

Just wondering what others have found works for them. I know everyone is slightly different, but was wondering if there seems to be an average amount that works best. I guess what i need to do is what you did, and finish the program through and make note of what worked and what didn't, and then run it again at a later time.
Thanks for the feedback!

Really, just as many as you can. It's the oddest thing I discovered when doing this whole thing...I can't believe how well they work.

I ate a disgusting amount of pj sandwiches. I used to buy a loaf of bread on the way to work each day, and make sandwiches and eat them on my morning and afternoon breaks. I'd eat lunch in between. People were amazed/disgusted by how much I ate during those 6 weeks, but the results were phenomenal. If your goal is to put on mass, I'd give the eating just as much effort as when your on squat number 42 with 8 left to go, your heart feels like it gonna come pounding out of your throat, your legs feel like Bambi, and you just want someone to take the bar off your back so you can lie down somewhere for a week ;)

I may be offering totally contradictory advice here, but one of the funnest pieces of advice I never really followed when it came to gaining mass was along the lines of....

Buy a pound of deli roast beef and a gallon of milk and make that your evening layaround meal as you watch TV.

Actually, as I said in the book, really anything is good as long as you can shovel it down.

One thing: it is just 6 weeks. That's the point some miss: just six weeks.

I was going to post a similar article from another source. Great minds. :-)

As with so many things, the key to the PBJ, in my view, is adherence. PBJ is delicious, so you can always shovel one more down. If you are trying to eat two pounds of beef or salmon -- every day, for six weeks -- well, good luck...

When I do my short-term gaining routine a couple months from now, I plan to incorporate my high-protein, lower-carb version of PB&Js:
* Whole grain bread such as 21 Whole Grains & Seeds by Dave's Killer Bread
* Peanut butter (or sometimes almond butter because I like the taste) mixed with whey protein
* Sugar free jam or syrup

And I will turn them into gooey little toast pie things on the stove using this retro gadget: http://toastite.biz/

I had PB&M, marmalade instead of jam.

Had it 1st at a coffee hour, toasted English muffin, PB and marmalade. Actually it had cream cheese under the marmalade.

Phew! Cream cheese and PB? Crazy

My favourite quick breakfast is wholewheat toast, PB and sliced banana! I could run through a wall after that.

Peanut butter mixed with chocolate protein powder and rolled into small(ish) balls then rolled in sesame or cia seeds. Awesome power snack.

A huge peanut butter sandwich with sugar free jam/jelly and high fiber wheat bread along with 2-3 cups of whole milk twice daily as an in between meal snack will pack the weight on you fast, most of it lean weight.
