Yeah! Summer! But wait, 4 weeks of summer school.

Tonight was the lower body. A bit chaotic.

Leg Press-Level 5: 12, 10, 8, 6, 12, 12
Leg Curls-Level 2: 12, 10, 8, 6, 12
Stiff legged Dead Lift: 12
Standing Heel Raises-Level 5: 12, 10, 8, 6, 12
Seated Calf Raise +20: 12
Reflex Bag two 3 minute rounds
20 minute sauna

I added weight with each set. For instance, the Leg Press, I started with Level 5 and 50 lbs.

Pedaling the Cyclo Trainer II tomorrow.

*I started day dreaming. Should have just been one set of 12.

Shoulders
Shoulder Press Level 2: 12, 10, 8, 6, 12
Inverted Lateral Raise Level 2: 12

My shoulders, aside from my lower back, are my tender spots. I will add a few pounds next week.

Biceps
Seated Biceps Curl Level 4: 12, 10, 8, 6, 12
Inverted Curl Level 2: 12

Triceps
Triceps Kick Back Level 2: 12, 10, 8, 6, 12
Triceps Push Down Level 2: 12

Time to add weight or jump a level. As stated above I will add weight in increments to the shoulder press. Instead of adding weight with each set, I will add weight on each exercise one time per set grouping. This may sound odd, but lifting the slightest weight at times can cause back pain. One loading per exercise.

Tomorrow is the Cyclo Trainer II, I am already ready. Or I may not know what condition my condition was in. (That is from which film?)

First day of Summer School. I had very few history and government students. I mentioned I thought I had an English certificate. So for the first time in 15 years I am an English teacher.

Cyclo Trainer II pedaling tonight. Level 7: 25 minutes.

Reflex Bag 16 oz gloves, three 3 minute rounds...

Dips Level 5+10 lbs: 80 Secs
9 Sec Static

Lat Pull Down/Biceps Curl Level 5+40 lbs: 140 Sec
10 Sec Static

Shoulder Press Level 2+20 lbs: 130 Secs
6 Sec Negative

Leg Press Level 6+60 lbs: 140 Secs

Not bad for my return. Pull Down, Should Press, and leg press see an increase next Monday. Good for them.

Wednesday and at least Friday will be recumbent pedaling and reflex bag work.

Well an early AM, 5:00, workout. I rode the recumbent for 23:00 minutes. Then four 3 minute rounds on the reflex bag.

It felt good. Summer school is out earlier in the
day and came straight and napped. A nap for the ages. The Ali-Frasier version of naps.

Well, Saturday should be good for more reflex bagging and epic napping.

Seated Row Level 5+40 lbs: 150 Secs

Dip Level 5+10 lbs: 100 Secs

Lat Pull Down/Biceps Curl Level 5+50 lbs: 110 Secs

Shoulder Press Level 2+25 lbs: 90 Secs

Leg Curl Level 2+15 lbs. 53 Secs

Some good, some bad... I rearranged my Man Cave, He Hut, Paleo Palace, or whatever we call things now in bro language. My workout was disheveled. I still made about 21 minutes, but I was not focused.

The first three exercises were fine. Then on the shoulder press I felt really weak. After a moment I realized I had not lowered the level. But hey, I got 30 seconds. Then lowered the level, laid back down, and pressed my surgically repaired bladder just right on the glide board. It sent signals to me which pretty much said now or never. I chose now. By the time I had finished making water I was not happy, frustrated, etc. I pushed for 90 seconds, I should not complain. The leg curl is the leg curl.

Plus, I was surprised I was able to exercise today. Yesterday I went fishing. I was carrying my friends equipment for him on a trail I should have skipped. It had been raining. The top dirt was wet, underneath was dry. I was headed down slope. Then my foot slipped, my body became horizontal to planet earth, and I landed back first. Was able to keep my head from hitting, and somehow kept from needing back surgery, but I am stiff and sore.

No, no trout yesterday.

Well, the reflex bag and recumbent are doing their job. I really had no faith in recumbents. I was wrong. I might try some Tabata this week. It has been awhile.

Yes, I am back-dating. Wednesday the 15th I mounted my Cyclo Trainer 2 and did a Tabata workout. I had three minutes of watm up, then 4 rounds of Tabata (20 Second work on the pedals, 10 second rest on the pedals). Then a 30 second cool down. I was huffing so I just rolled off and took floor time.

Today is a strength day later.

Leg Press Level 6+70 lbs: 103 Secs

Not bad tonight. Overall, about 20 minutes. I am pleased with the shoulder press improvement. The seated row climbs steadily upward. I labored a bit with dips. I know within the last 5 years dips have been a bit of a struggle. In fact two years ago I was quite despaired when I could not do one regular dip. For now the glide board keeps me in the dip game.

Next week is to improve on the pull downs and leg press.

20 minute dry infrared sauna

Well I keep fiddling with workouts. This afternoon I finished a Slow Motion workout. All went well.

Leg Press

I believe it took 19:00 minutes on the dot. I need to get pedaling in this week as well.

Today felt good, though I did not feel like putting in a session. I know, how unmotivated must a person be when he does not feel like doing his once a week strength session?

But weight, and or time, continue to increase. I am not sure when my next workout at home will be. Our travel summer starts Friday.

Progress is catching up. For twenty years we have had an unobstructed view of parts of the Tetons, the river bottoms near us, etc. Well a developer bought seventeen acres behind us and the county commission meets July 26th(?). He wants 8 lots, two acres a lot. I have been expecting this. But I was expecting a division of lots to a 1/4 acre. Am I sad I will have neighbors? Yes! Could it have been worse? Yes! I know a neighborhood that happened to. They were zoned for 1.5 acres. The city annexed them and rezoned for 1/3 acre lots on the 1.5 acre lots that did not sell.

I retire in a few years. I have been scouting Western Montana.

Enough of my well to do woes.

We lost a German Shepherd last week to prostate cancer. One percent of dogs get prostate cancer. Males of course. It took him quick. So I am a bit sad. Actually, we are quite devastated.

Speaking of the prostate, a lady I work with, our resource teacher, has a husband who teaches health at the county high school. This last year he and his wife were watching TV when he turned to her and stated they needed to get their prostates checked. He was serious.

Tonight was not a bad workout. I have had better, certainly worse. I have a bunion on my right foot. I was able to get the foot in position to get the exercise done.

I finished in 17:47.

20 minute infrared dry sauna.

My upper half was excellent. I get to put on a few pounds on all but the shoulder press. The leg press though, that was a struggle. In fact it should have been leg curls. I looked right at my recording book, it said leg curls and I promptly did leg presses. Dough Head I am.

Summer is winding down. Time to start getting my class in order. I have spent the last few months gorging on the Civil War. I hope by May someone 18 or under will remember who Grant is. Or Meade. I know a couple will not know who Lincoln is.

Mid-Afternoon, the time worked out well. When I get back to work however, I think I will shoot for AM. Though I feel better than I have in previous life stages, I still feel pooped out by time work is done. My neighbor is my age and frames houses. It amazes me.

But, I can get a workout in, something I could not do 5-10 years ago. Which is a good thing.

The high desert had a bit of San Francisco weather today, low clouds, scattered rain here and there, cool breeze, temp under 70. It made for the windows open, fans off workout. I could use more days like that. Memories I guess.

Each exercise felt good, no joint aches, no needing to cut an exercise short.

A bit abbreviated. Issues with the glide board on the track. The left side seems to be catching a bit. It interferes with the smoothness of the glide. I probably need to dust the undercarriage.

Other than that: sweat + A few potty mouth words = Not a bad workout.

I forgot to mention, I started taking piano lessons a few years back. My first teacher was finishing up his BA at the local university here. He ended up in London at the London Conservatory of Music.

He finished there. Now at the end of this month he will be performing at the Royal Albert Hall. I would say he has arrived.

Good workout... Early morning is cool I like that as opposed to the afternoon heat.

I must be stronger than I though. Lat pull and Dips were at Level 5 not four. I should have double checked.

Tonight started up as a bit of a cluster muff. I got it together. Tonight was one of the first times in a while where not having a workout exercise list slowed me down. I was not sharp.

Though I felt strong, I shot myself in the foot with no plan.

I performed the Cable Chest Press. I have not performed that in 20 years, on a Bowflex. I was not a fan of the exercise then, not now either, regardless of the equipment.

Three workouts this week. I need to, and I type it all of the time, put minutes on the Cycle Trainer I (incumbent peddle).

I slept, literally all day today, until 5 PM. Then I watched a Netflix detective show filmed in Luxembourg, chatted with a daughter, then, hit the fitness.

Good workout... My arms got a nice pump, I felt like I put good work into my Latissimus, and the brief sets of board sit ups felt good. Legs, well, they needed more work probably, but I wanted to go a bit lighter this evening.

Good tonight. Napped, struggled to wake myself, but then, I joined the world of awake. Drank a can of Liquid Death then viola'. The Total Gym appears to have a design flaw. As I push into the foot board doing squats/leg press, part of the frame is pushed up slightly catching the slide board. It sticks.

Unbeknownst to me my wife was in the house while I was leg pressing. Apparently I sounded like Darren McGavin in A Christmas Story. Fortunately we were out of Lifeboy.

Dinner is three eggs over easy, Kodiak Cakes: Oat and Golden Wheat, and peach syrup. I put my condiments, etc. in ice cream cups and dip, instead of pour. Fewer calories I assume.

I assume Wednesday then!

Maybe 20/25 minutes. I did not rush. I fell asleep at about 5:30 PM and slept until 7:30 PM. We will see how I sleep tonight!

The long set of leg press went well. With the late start I decided on the pull up/shoulder press super set. It has been awhile, I think since I have used a super set. I also am thinking the lat pull down would super set well with the pull over.

I am pleased that there were no equipment malfunctions. I swapped out the large foot stand for the smaller foot stand. I think less leverage being from the foot stand means less energy and pulling that rail up and into the way of the glide board.

I have not devoured much today. Dinner was Famous Dave's sweet and spicy pickles and two glasses of milk. Michelin stars there. I forgot, add a microwaved breakfast burrito to that.

A three day weekend ahead. My kids from Logan are headed up with spouses and their child.

Lethargic today. It might be the warmer weather. It might be chasing a nine week German Shepherd pup around the house and yard. Whatever it was/is I am pretty wiped.

I keep wanting to sauna, but I am warn out, and I do not dig hot on hot. Of course my hot is someone else's chill.

After last Wednesday's workout I felt pretty pooped the rest of the week.

Leg Curl Level 3: 3x10

Incline Sit Up Level 6: 4x10

Mid week sets. I always plan mid week to be my leg curl day. But usually I forget. Well, not tonight. I do not do a lot, but next week maybe 4 sets.

I added the lat pull down/biceps curl/rotate hands triceps push down back again. It has been awhile since I have added that. It felt good.

I need throw sets of dips in, maybe Friday. I saw a YouTube do a video on keeping the Total Gym from getting stale. I have not had that impede my exercise. Looking at my "regular" workouts I like to swap exercises in and out, often no workouts are the same, and if I have had two sessions in a week and feel pooped, I take an extra couple of days.

When it really, mentally, becomes a chore, that is when I will switch to Super Slow.

Enough potificating.

Short tonight. I woke at 3:30 AM. I played piano from 5:00 AM to 6:30 AM. I graded papers until 8:30 AM. Then the buses came. I got home at 5:00 PM, pooped. Short tonight. But, I think of my Grandfather walking his mail route in San Francisco, I am not sure I would have made that.

Kneeling Curl Level 3: 3x12

Decline Sit Ups Level 6: 1x12, 1x15, 1x20

The "Squat Trio" worked my legs well. It turns out to be fairly simple: Two leg squat- Right Leg squat- left leg squat, repeat.

I have never defined the incline sit up. I because of stenosis abdominal exercise is pretty limited. Ab wheels are out. Planks do not help. I do not think highly of crunches. Last year, I guess, I was staring at the Total Gym trying to think of a way to maybe do some stomach work. I had done a few flat board sets of sit ups but after the lower back pain let me know it is not far behind. So, anyway I put the board on level 6 lay on my back and curled toward my feet. And here I have been calling it an incline sit up. In reality, it is a decline sit ups. Oops...

Now that I have got that straight I am sure there is more to come!

Tonight felt good! I feel more fit. Which is good since hitting late middle age and a better fitness level often help determine longevity (Men's Health 2002?). I do need to leap on the Cyclo Trainer I and work the cardio pulmonary more. Though I go through my series of exercises on the Total Gym at a good clip. I get the lungs going.

Of all things, thinking I had named the incline sit up wrong, mixing it up with the decline sit up, come to find out I was right. The only exercise chart that calls the decline sit up an incline sit up was the Soloflex exercise chart. That happened to be the chart I looked at on Saturday.

Well I plan on Wednesday see you then!

Well tonight was a more voluminous session than normal. I skipped the world famous incline sit up at the end due to my back stiffening up. There will be next week. I am thinking pedaling the recumbent attachment might cause that. Who knows.

I got my three workouts in this week. That is a good thing. It will be good to rest a day or two.

On a specific exercise comment, the Trio Squat kicked my duff. I saw a woman performing it on a YouTube channel and thought I might be able to be more efficient on squats. It was.

20 Minute Cycle Trainer pedaling

15 Minute Sauna

I drank to much V8 over the last few days. My feet are quite swollen. A little sodium sensitive I guess. So I started a sweat on the recumbent and finished up with a 15 minute sauna. I am hoping my shoes fit tomorrow.

I was interrupted this evening. Up above is where I landed. My daughter and her husband went out. I was on dog duty. It is like having a toddler. Anyway I let him out and he played.

Maybe I will introduce a small workout later in the week. When I was very young I would put in 4 sessions a week on occasion. An extra workout once in awhile would be good.

I had a week off, so I took the week off. I read, I watched BBC detective shows, I chased our new German Shepherd pup around keeping him in the yard, when he napped I napped. His ears are up, he is going to be majestic I think.

I did take the week off. It was potato harvest break. I lazed around. In fact I always go back and check online students, get lessons ready, not this time. I did not even feel guilty.

I had a nice restful weekend. I should have mowed, but cooler nights are slowing the grass down, but the leaves are now dropping. I have thought of a condominium when I retire, however there are other people in condominiums. I have even thought of a cabin in a wooded land. But the West being as dry as it is makes me hesitate.

I thought I would buy an arm blaster. I tried it out this evening, and yes it works with glide board just fine. I have not used one of those in?

It needs some thinking through, indeed. The future climate will probably get more complicated. We can expect more and bigger extremes but to have your own plot and abode that doesn't need a lot of maintenance is a neat idea.
