I've seen HR monitors become erratic when the battery charge is low.

Yeah according to the polar app it says it was full but I put a new one in last night anyway, and did a reset on it. Will try again and see if it's any better.

Seem to remember this being why I never stuck with MAF running the last two times too :(

Had absolutely no issues with the HRM this morning. Not sure if it was because:

-I wore a cotton tshirt
-new battery and reset of the HRM
-wore the belt tighter - found out you need about 8 inches of stretch in the belt to be optimal

-all of the above

Swing 3 x 15
Goblet squat 3 x 8
Pushups 3 x 8
Snatch 3 x 8/8
Clean and press 3 x 8/8

Run MAF-ish 45 mins. Was short on time and went a little far from home so had to rush a little.

Wednesday am

Run 30 mins MAF, barefoot around the park opposite my house.

Had the urge to try this again for a while and just had to do it.

Grass was a bit wet and cold and rough, but it felt great!

Running seems to be going ok, it’s the running AND still doing some decent strength work that I suck at. No balance.

Wednesday lunchtime

Run 30 mins. Not watching HR. Barefoot shoes.

Too hot to worry about HR today. Just ran at as comfortable pace as possible on a gravel trail in barefoot merrells - which is not very fast at all.

Avg HR 144 anyway and max 155 on a hill, so really not a hard run.

As expected, MAF is yet again too stressful and sucks the fun out of running entirely. Especially as the weather is getting warmer but also unpredictable at the moment - cold, rainy and windy one day, then warm and no breeze the next.

I think I will continue to run easy and wear the HRM, but not check it until I get home and see how things track.

Will save the strict MAF work until after summer!

Yep, that's the struggle, right? I think a few C&Ps with a KB is probably the best bet (2, 3, 5. 2, 3, 5, 2, 3, 5 each arm?), but having said that, I've never done nearly the volume or frequency of running you are doing, so what do I know lol...

No I think you’re absolutely right on there.

I keep thinking snatches are the answer, and they’re fine and pretty much a ‘full body’ lift, but of course the KB C&P is much more head-to-toe all in one, no fuss, strength building.

A mix of 2-3-5s with the 24 and 1-2-3s with 32 occasionally would probably be more than enough

Wednesday pm

Second run for the day. Only been doing short runs this week so had time to add some more easy mileage

Run 7km

Ran in my regular shoes thinking it would feel super fast and easy compared to the minimal shoes, but it was much harder work on my knees. And after a few days in the merrells and vivos, the cushioning felt ridiculous!

Next I’ll need to see what slightly cushioned, but zero drop shoes feel like. Think it might be the drop difference that is the key.

Yeah, see, to me, snatches or swings are substitutes for running, rather than something to put on top of it. Even though they are more anaerobic, I just feel like doing all the explosive work when your body is already being asked to do a good bit of running may be too much, unless you can turn back the clock a decade or so...

Sunday pm

Run 9kms 60 mins

Faster than usual run. Main aim was to cover 8kms to total 40 for the week which would be the most in a long time.

Added a mix of easier and harder running which “felt” relatively fast, but the watch said no. I could barely break 6min/km at what felt like 5min/km. I used to run that pace for a normal daily run and 6 would be super easy. I even had to double check on my phone gps incase my watch was reading wrong.

Not sure if all these MAF runs have just made me even slower than before, or if I’m just that unfit these days

I was ok with the 24 but it did take me a while! Quite a bit of rest between rounds and nearly stopped at 3 rounds

On my first occasion I wanted to stop after 2 rounds. But I didn't because you wrote 4. Thanks! I thought 8kg for swings was embarrassingly little but it all adds. I save the 24 for DLs now.

Continue your good work.

And now for something a little different...

The smallest child thwarted my morning run plan by waking up extremely early. So I took my running kit to work, however by lunchtime it was too warm out.

So I signed up for a free week trial at a local gym. Thought maybe I could do 3 lunchtimes a week over the summer since it will be too hot to do anything else.

Just did a simple delorme-ish session to remind myself of things

leg press
chest press
seated row
dumbbell military press
lat pulldown

all done 10-5-MAX at roughly 50/75/100%
