My EOY is to give the following a road test:

Tim Ferris

The Four Hour Body

Slow-Carb Diet

Rule 1: avoid “white” carbohydrates
Rule 2: eat the same few meals over and over again
Rule 3: don’t drink calories
Rule 4: don’t eat fruit
Rule 5: take one day off per week and go nuts

Apparently no need to exercise and you’ll still lose fat fast

I’ll continue on my current “laid back” exercise routine nonetheless.

See what falls out by the end.

Interesting test! I'm not sure I know anyone who actually tried the full slo carb diet, although it's not a lot different than other eating plans we've used. Thanks for reporting. :~)

My wife and I tend to eat somewhat slow carb, and there are a lot of tasty things to eat on the diet. This site has some very tasty things, including my favourite bbq lamb side dish, warm chickpeas with rosemary and garlic.

Good luck, and make sure you put up any really good recipes you find!

so 2 weeks in and my comments/observations to date:
1) easier to follow than I thought
2) having said that my portions are HUGE
3) my free(fall) day is even HUGER
4)I have my doubts about the free(fall) day - just my blood sugar levels and lethargy alone but psychologically it's fun to pig out
5) weight - has gone down to 102.8kg but then has gone back up to 104kg
6) waist down from 38" to 37"
7)I wonder about beans and lentils as well - I don't feel ill or bloated eating them but it seems so contra paleo
8)it's not supposed to make a difference whether you exercise or not - I am in a "laid back" do as I feel routine at present anyway - more swimming and bodyweight excercise of late than weights

Early days I guess - took a photo today so I can check for differences as 5) and 6) seem odd given what little weightlifting I have had time for these past 2 weeks

have amended my EOY by deciding to add Occam's Protocol to Slow Carb Diet (per Tim Ferriss 4 - Hour Body)

so Slow - Carb Diet may be more about fat loss than weight loss

am up to 104.5kg at this morning's weigh in BUT waist down to 36"

meal sizes remain HUGE but no white stuff (rule 1)

seems I don't repeat my meals enough though (rule 2)

not enough cruciferous veges & occassioanl large Bloody Mary instead of red wine seems the major divergences to Tim's diet summary

acknowledge that I am slack online

I started this EOY and like my online log as a benchmark & record so better late than never - and better before I forget

Ferriss' Slow-Carb Diet works a treat

Personally I'd say avoid the off day because I think it took me close to 2-3 days to restabilise in feel good terms

I ate HUGE meals according to his guideines...I mean 5-6 eggs and bacon and spinach, 2-3 steaks with broccoli or 1kg tuna cooked in with a couple of tins of tomatoes

add Occam lifting and I ended up hitting 108kg and much leaner and with a lot less hard work than with Mass Made Simple

having said all that it all falls apart very quickly as soon as you're off the strict guidelines...a lot like my v - diet experiments

this is really a kick start - and more power to you if you can modify a transition or maintain it long term

the most powerful things about this was the rapid transformation and I really felt good

I remember the feel good in particular and after a backslide in January/February I have been rebuilding a hybrid dietary and exercise routine that seems to be working well for me and may well work long term

It's now late March but what I learnt about myself in the 2012 EOY and subsequent slack period really seems to have been a personal cross roads
