Bob,

I would suggest wearing an older pair of running shoes. You won't necessarily ruin your shoes but they won't be the same after the run. We will double knot and tuck the laces to keep them from untying and keep them out of the way.

Shorts and shirt should be a polyester type of material. I wouldn't recommend cotton as it will absorb rather than repel the water. One other thing, wear some type of underarmour shorts under your running shorts. I have ripped a couple of pairs on the course and you probably don't want your bum in full view of the spectators.

Some people think it's a good idea to duct tape their shoes so they don't get pulled off in Devil Dog's Ditch. I would not recommend it. The duct tape will cause you to lose traction on the obstacles and it also tends to come off, which means some volunteer has to pick up your litter after the run. I would also refrain from wearing gloves. They aren't needed and, like the duct tape, there tends to be discarded gloves all over the course for someone to pick up.

Oh, funny! We moved our mapping plans to private topic and left the IOL readers dry. Sorry, folks! Yes, we're still going to Kyle and Lisa's this weekend. :~)

I'm bummed to be missing this Volkslauf! Had to climb this ladder on my recent trip...was thinking "at least there's no mud".

Have a wonderful, muddy time. Can't wait to hear about it and see your pictures.

Colleen, see where it says (lB) next to the attachment? That means there's no file there -- most likely the file was too large and it didn't upload properly. That's what we see most often. You can email it to me if you don't have a way to shrink it there. ldraper@davedraper.com

My best wishes to all of you participating in this event! And most important: Be safe, have fun and a great time!
Would have loved to join you, but it's a bit too far from Germany...
I just finished a 10.5k cross-country race over here on Sunday, and did a 11.5k mountain race end of August. No obstacle courses, but still a good feeling to run and finish in a race for the first time after 21 years.
