Tweaked baby knee getting into position for the ab wheel so I called it a day and iced it. Seems to be caused by a tight I T band so that's something that needs work.

- Some Squats and Rack Deadlifts with just the bar while setting up my rack for Dan John's Hypertrophy and Recovery Program.

After yesterday's knee tweak I don't feel like I should test anything the first of the year and am ready to try something different. This morning I had DOMS in my left hip (glute/piriformis) was sore and reflecting on yesterday's knee tweak I think what happened was that when getting into position for the ab wheel roll outs my hip stabilizers spasmed and stressed the IT band.

-- Kettlebell Suitcase Carry 28kg 50ft L / 50ft R
-- Deadlift 95# 25
- Squat
-- 6 point Rock 25

- Loaded Carry
-- Leopard Crawl 40 ft
-- Farmer Walk 2x32kg 50ft
- 1:06:13 HR avg 96 max 134

The baby knee stood up well to this but was a bit achy afterward so I iced and elevated it. The backward walk and snatches are substituted for warmups that Dan suggests.

OS Resets
Heavy Hands Walk 0.67 miles 13:43 HR avg 102 max 120
Reflecting on Dan John's Do This Hypertrophy and Recovery Plan I’ve decided that it’s not something I want to commit to right now. I want something more flexible as I can’t expect to have a barbell and pullup bar available all the time for the next 12 weeks. I’ve decided to try a variant of Dan's Easy Strength for Fat Loss.

Easy Strength for Fat Loss with TSC Focus

- Warmup
– Original Strength Routine
– Foam Rolling
– Kettlebell Waiter Walk
– Goblet Squat
- Strength Focus
– Vertical Press
– Chin Up
– Deadlift
– Kettlebell Snatch
- Walk, Ruck, or Loaded Carry

- Hang 30 seconds x 3
- OS Resets
- Naked Getup L/R as an assessment. Left was pretty smooth but right was compromised by the new left knee. Both were pain free so I've got that going for me. It's time to start practicing these.
- Walk 1.82 miles 34:59 HR avg 105 max 133

- Rest Day

Having survived 2022 I'm thinking about the New Year as I smoke a brisket for dinner. My new knee should be fully healed about July and I'm thinking about entering the Tactical Strength Challenge in the Spring, Fall or maybe both but we'll see how recovery goes. I'll be trying an intuitive Easy Strength type program with deadlifts about twice a week, kettlebell snatches about 3 times a week, and pullups about 4 times a week with squats, presses, ab wheel rollouts, swings, getups, loaded carries and walking sprinkled in to satisfy variety, recovery, assistance and equipment availability needs.

I'm 72 years old today and feeling rather good though my knew knee reminded me this morning that it still has some healing to do. I weighed in at 196# this morning and waist was 39.5 in. Since I'm under tall at 70 inches I need to focus on body comp this year in an effort to get my waist to height ratio down to 0.5. My weight had been running about 203# before the knee replacement and I weighed in at 207 when I got home from the hospital, then dropped to 184# until I stopped taking pain medication and has increased during holiday festivities. Sleep is generally fair to good. I need to focus more on limiting carbs, especially sugar, and alcohol.

- Strength Training
-- Hang 30 sec x 3, OS Resets
-- Kettlebell Swing 20kg 10L / 10R
-- Naked Getup L/R
-- Kettlebell Snatch 20kg 5 minutes 70 total reps
-- 18:16 HR avg 101 max 153
- Kettlebell Mile (later)
-- 20kg 1.01 miles 25:47 HR avg 70 max 113
-- Stopped at 0.75 mile to adjust wrist strap as I was suspicious of the low heart rate, breathing was commensurate with work load.

Baby knee complained a bit about the swings and right getup and was otherwise fine.

A little more birthday testing today.

- Hang 30 sec. x 3
- OS Resets
- Foam Rolling
- Strength
-- Backward Sled Drag 185# 100ft x 2
-- Deadlift 185# 1, 225# 1, 275# 1, 295# 1, 315# 1, 320# 1
-- Pullup 2
-- Farmer Walk 2x48kg 50 ft
-- 55:58 HR avg 81 max 113

Knew I should've worked harder on pullups in the early days after my knee repacement.

Well, don't should yourself- if you could you would. The body needs all power for healing. It'll come back to you.

Yes healing takes a lot of energy, but I could've prioritized pullups but I didn't. Just something to work on going forward.
