I haven't been doing TGU regularly though I did a few unloaded getups this week to see that I still could. I should consider making them a focus for a while.

As discussed in the Turkish Getup thread, it's important to be able to do a getup but you don't necessarily have to do them often or heavily loaded to maintain the capability. That said the do expose mobility issues.

Felt good except for a couple of things. On next to last set on the left with the 24kg I had a weak lockout, increased my rest intervals and the rest were good. A mild twinge showed up after I got to the 16kg snatches, lower right back where lat and oblique meet after the lockout as the bell was coming down past the chest on most of left hand snatches and a couple of the right hand snatches.

Power outage 2021.02.14 about 20:00 and it came back up 2021.02.16 at 09:00 so training has been a bit more minimalist. Our house is all electric and this was an interesting experiment, it held heat better than I expected getting down to 44F when the power returned with outside temps in the range 6F to 26F. Estimate snow total at our place at 6 to 8 inches. We had limited firewood so rationed that, frying my emergency Spam in a cast iron skillet in the fireplace for dinner last night.

Good to know how your house is performing. You are performing well, as usual.


We've got the last delivery of snow last Wednesday (ten to fifteen inches during the night and morning). It looked fabulous, fairytale like but the next day the melting phase started. Less fun. Obviously they sent whatever snow they had left in storage up there in heaven.

I'm just trying to keep on keeping on Pink. You're snow makes our 6 to 8 inches seem puny but this area isn't used to it at all. We've had three snows this year and most years we don't have any. After the power outages in the past week I'm considering a generator and laying in a good supply of firewood.

Going from snow to rain and sleet is bad. One of the things I liked about Colorado was that it's basically high desert. While we had some rain, most of the precipitation was snow with just a little sleet and rain. That and that most winters you'd have 2 or 3 dark snowy days followed by a week or so of sunny, if still cold weather before the next storm.

Perhaps it is the fact that the last year was so "pandemically different" and the spring 2020 so traumatic that a few sun rays just make my day now, no matter what temperature is out there. Sweat or freeze, let there be Light.

My wife talked me into going for a walk a walk this afternoon.

Wimped out of tomorrow's highland games, just not feeling it with the right shoulder being a little cranky. My highland games days are probably over. Next up is the 8 May Tactical Strength Challenge. For that I'm planning to continue Easy Strength Deadlifts and GtG Pullups for the next couple of weeks then start a simple linear progression for the deadlifts, the Fighter Pullup Program and A+A Snatches mostly with 20kg but with a few 24kg sets mixed in. This will end a couple of weeks before the TSC leaving me time for some Death March peaking sessions.
