I'm definitely in.

However, it would be better if they made a Don't Make Waves, too - a sequel.

Maybe...Tony Curtis's car breaks down again and when he walks to get help there is Dave training at the beach, et al. Dave could be heart broken since his girlfriend (Sharon) eloped with someone else. You fill in the rest...

I have not seen the movie yet this is the best I can do.

There's another reason the DVD would be cool: Dave's in more scenes in the "letterbox" version than the video modification. We really noticed that when we saw the film version at the theater -- the theater owner found a superior film the second time he showed it that had vivid color and Dave in more scenes. Fun.

But... I doubt if our few dozen purchase orders would be enough to bring out the DVD.

Upcoming Draper on TV
07-02-06 10:07 PM - Post#215548

I remember seeing that alot of people on here were on the lookout for the movies and shows that Mr. Draper made appearances in. I looked ahead on my satellite and saw that on monday July 10th at 9:00AM EST, the episode of the "The Beverly Hillbillies" called "Mr. Universe Muscles In" is on and stars Mr. Draper. The channel that it is showing on is WGN, which i believe is a Chicago station. I am not sure if that's a national station, or whether we happen to get it in Pennsylvania for some reason. So set your DVR, TIVO, or a VHS if you have to and want to. Just thought I'd let everyone know.

I have checked Turner Classic Movies schedule for August when they do Summer Under the Stars, last year on the day they saluted Tony Curtis "Don't Make Waves" was one of the movies, but it looks like Tony got left out of the salute this year.

Book "Don't Make Waves" was from.
02-19-07 09:51 PM - Post#267059

Please indulge my nostalgic rambling as I reflect back on the year 1961 as a junior at Beverly High who had been lifting weights by myself in my cellar for several years when I came across a paperback novel titled "Muscle Beach" by Ira Wallach. It was a hilarious novel but for someone who's only contact with the close fraternity of bodybuilding was the limited few muscle magazines of the time and they only provided brief descriptions of what being a hardcore bodybuilder was really like, this book was "The Holy Grail" for me and I devoured it with such intensity that I could still quote from it today. When "Don't Make Waves" starring Dave came out several years later, at the risk of sounding overly dramatic, I felt like I was being "reborn". Well Ironagers, I've just been reborn again as I recently purchased a copy of "Muscle Beach" on ebay and after reading it twice, I am once again motivated to share this gem with you. If you are interested, please reply with your mailing name and address and I'll start it around the country. Written in 1959, it is a classic description of what "The Golden Age of Bodybuilding" in Southern California was all about. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and do.

Sweet, Norm!

I'm afraid my copy, gifted from the collection of Bill Keyes, who paid a whopping 15 cents for it back about a hundred years ago, is not going to get passed around the country like loose change. :~)

Just received my copy of "Muscle Beach". It's a hard back and is in excellent shape including the book jacket cover. Even had a Greyhound bus schedule in it for Washington-Baltimore from September 9, 1959. I'm impressed with the quality and price and lookin' forward to readin' it.

I'm still looking for it on 16 or 35mm for a Draper filmfest I want to have. I already have Dave's Monkees and Beverly Hillbillies episodes on 16mm. When I get Don't Make Waves I'll hold a Muscle Beach party at my house in the summer, with sand, weights, movies, BBQ and Bomber Blend in the margarita machine. Sweet!

Actually, when you rip it to DVD, the copy looks better then VHS, because DVD at SP is 525 lines of resolution vs. VHS at 240.
I transfered all my old VHS tapes to DVD, they look good.
