I believe it was taken while Dave worked on "Don't Make Waves" with the gorgeous Claudia Cardinale.

Dave really liked her. After the filming was done, they spent an afternoon together re-reading some of their lines for the editors to lay over the original audio. It was just the two of them working, and they shared a lot of laughs that day.

Don't Make Waves (trailer)
04-28-08 09:16 PM - Post#436467

I dug the following up off YouTube in case everyone hasn't seen it before. Probably it is already well known. This is the trailer to Don't Make Waves and you can see Dave and Tony Curtis on it.
Incidentally, Tony Curtis has been in the papers lately as he was posing for a few pics.

Dave was most impressed with Sharon Tate during that trampoline segment, said she was fearless. The director told her to jump off the tramp and into Dave's arms, that he'd catch her. And that's what she did, and what he did. She had no reason to believe he actually could, but she jumped anyway.

One of the parachutists died during the filming of the jump sequence, did you guys know that?

No, I didn't know that. I did hear about Sharon Tate, though.
Tony Curtis used to be in the Persuaders with Roger Moore so maybe Dave has seen the Persuaders?
I suspect Don't Make Waves will be out on DVD soon so I'll have to watch it one night. At the moment I'm watching a lot of the King Of The Hill animations as I think that show is pretty cool.

I didn't know that, either.

As to the rest of the movie...without the occasional shot of Dave, it would have been an absolute snore.

Sharon Tate. Sheesh, she was beautiful! As to Charles Manson and his family...I leave them in God's hands. I'm sure he will be more just and merciful than I.

When I first saw it in the early 70's on TV, Don't Make Waves was the first time I had ever seen a bodybuilder, and Dave seemed like a god to me. When I got a little older, I appreciated Sharon Tate and Claudia Cardinale a bit more...
I really think Dave's acting wasn't bad - he was playing a very nice (now we know that was type casting) and naive guy, and he pulled it off. I think he could have pulled off a movie career if he'd been given the chance.

It's always been a highly competitive industry - the movie business. Anthony Hopkins stated in an interview that really he had a bit of luck on his side when he made it big as a star and I guess it was the same for Sean Connery.
I agree Dave could have expanded his acting career although I don't know whether attitudes to bodybuilders back in the sixties might have proven to be an obstacle. Bodybuilders seem to be typecast as Rambos, Rockys and Terminators e.t.c.

Dave really didn't like film work, although if he'd come along a decade later when those roles were available, maybe things would have gone a little differently.

For a guy that didn't like film work he sure did a great job. Even if I wasn't a fan of Dave as a bodybuilder, I would love "Don't Make Waves". I've seen it at least 20 times since I was a kid and I always find it enjoyable. My wife says its the best of my "muscle movies".

Depends, does Netflix only carry DVDs? If so then your campaign would be to drive the studio to put out a DVD version of the movie (unless there is one). Doubt it would happen even if every IOL expressed interest in a DVD.

The theme song by the Byrds was really neat. It's a movie I'll watch more that once because it's relaxing and entertaining and it takes you back and puts you in another world for a while. The scenery was really neat,1968.One line I remember the most was the neat house Tony Curtis bought in the Malibu hills for 100 thousand and the Rolls Royce for 27 grand.I bet it costs a little more to live in the Malibu hills today. If Dave had only had an Austrian accent.

I haven't watched the whole thing, just parts of it. But one of these lonely nights I will. A house in Malibu Hills for 100 grand, now it would cost a couple million.

I have a copy on DVD that was taped from the tube given by Gregthebody. Steve W. also has a copy. There is some quality issues but I was OK with it, if someone wants a copy PM me. If Dave doesn't want me to pass along a copy then I won't.
So if Laree feels this is a bad idea I'll rescind the offer.
I could also send out a copy that can be passed on and on if you like, similar to the E! interview that passed along. I could also make a DVD that has the E! interview and the movie as well and pass that along.

Hey, I'm on vacation next week so I have the time to kick this off pending approval by the Drapers of course.

Here's the TCM Don't Make Waves page so you can find your local listing.
