It's all here:
Ruin the shoelace.
The get up teaching...the whole bit.

And, to remind everyone:

Turkish Get Up Progression:

Roll to side (I call this "Cuddle") (Be sure when on your back put your right ear to the ground at least once and your left ear to the ground at least once)

Up to elbow (Raise your "straight leg" up and down a few times)

Up to post (I call this the "T Position" like I use in explaining the discus) (I also look back and forth at both hands a few times, too) (Do the leg raises, too)

To high hips (The Key. Hold the Hips High for a while and keep stretching the "Four Knots")

Rarely do we finish the exercise for throwers...but, here you go:

To kneel
To stand and then back down.

The "Four Knots:" Right shoulder, left shoulder, right hip, left hip.

They are also the Fence Posts that hold the "chain link" fence (the core, but I loath that term)

Dan, if u ever wanted to get a suggestion for an article its here.
Can u share any info on this?!!?!

My problem is I have trouble finishing the throw here. Once I turn my right leg in to bring fourth the hips I try to push off with that leg and once I feel the weight transfer I throw.

Discus/Hammer

Goals:
SQ:450, BP:350, CL:300
Discus: 180+, Hammer: 200+

The head position is a great cue. I have a habit of pulling my head hard to the right, whick keeps the left bent too long. The hips up from the TGU is helping with muscle memory at the end of the throw.

moofs, I can't get a handle on the question.

the only thing I can tell you is to throw (a lot) with soft legs, don't straighten them at all. Just feel the hips lead and release. Get a can out there and aim for it and don't go for max. Easy soft leg throws.

You can't train technique with max intensity very often (maybe ever?)...

Try the soft legs training.

Can anyone point me to some videos of the thrower in the picture above? Still pictures are great but I seem to be able to learn even more from video or a series of stop action pics. Thanks

Thanks Dan. I'm trying to get a collection of videos of the better lady throwers to show my junior high and HS girl throwers - they keep saying - "but he's a guy - he's bigger, or stronger, or whatever". Hopefully showing them some video - especially of girls with good technique and big throws will help them realize whats possible for them.

Any recommendations of a good TGU video on youtube?

I've tried it once, and sadly, got confused as hell.

Buy "Kalos Stenos." Sometimes for free you get less than you paid for it.

Ah, another item on the "things to buy" list.

Might not purchase it any time soon, but sometime in the future for sure.

Re Dani Samuels - shoelace destroyer

Glenn Thompson has been in touch with Denis and hopefully something will be forthcoming in Long Strong Throwing Journal, next year.

I bumped into Peter Farmer at the Masters Games in Sydney this month, and he is quiet proud of Dani's result.

Did some research on Peter and apart from his 12th in Montreal and 3rd in 77 World Cup the most striking thing was he was the only Australian man to medal in our Commonwealth games in the throws between 1966 and 1982. Peter is appointed throwing coach at our Institute of sport mid 80's and 1986 we had 5 medalists.

I talked with Dan John earlier about getting ready for the HG. He was a great help and I thought I would share the suggestions he gave me.
...Do the Big 21 program without adding to it, i tend to be an overachiever.
...Big 21 for 3 weeks take a week off, Big 21 again for another 3 weeks take a week off, then i can do the 5-3-1 program with vo2 max thrown in then some medicine ball throwing to work on technique of throwing and working on my footwork.
...get a dynamax 6 to 8 lb medicine ball for throwing.
...go to dynamax website and look up the solo exercises program and start doing it.
...read his article about thinking and throwing through
... find a hg competitor in my area and see if they will help
...BUY A KILT
...COMPETE

Sunday I have the privilege of working shot putt with Adrianne Blewitt. I finally "get it" now about the hips high. Of course now I have to get these old bones to actually do it. I hope it will help to actually have an idea of "what" I'm trying to do. Why is it that "simple" is so darn complicated? :)

Discus Throw is a very amazing game and played by both male and female. This is one of the best technically played sport. I always like to watch this game. While playing this game positioning of the body plays major role in perfect throw.

Chris, that's awesome that you got to throw with Adriane! I've seen her name all over the NASGA results page and she has some huge throws.

Still can't go the laying down -> forearm on the floor bit properly. Always doing a sit up instead.

Think specifically of transferring your weight onto the forearm. It may be unconscious soon enough but the idea is to shift weight using the same technique as a roll or cuddle, while engaging strength to keep that KB up, and put the weight onto the forearm - 'least, that's how I run it.
