I am concerned about the continuing dizziness. I have checked my blood pressure a few times and it's been low so that may be the problem. I had asked the ENT physician when I went a couple of weeks ago but he said it wasn't an inner ear problem since the reaction is not a feeling of spinning and it lasts only a few seconds. However, it happens often and at times I kind of stumble.

Hope that gets figured out, Judge!

No, Leo, I haven't ruled it out yet. However, I have breakfast a few hours prior to training and it happens outside the gym as well. It doesn't seem to occur after hours of not eating. I also have had headaches lately which I haven't had in many years.

Hi Judge,

Feeling dizzy and headaches you said- those are signs of dehydration.
Are you drinking enough H2O each day?

Actually, I think I do. I have been checking my BP several times a day and it's been great. Thanks for checking in, Pixie!

My BP is now all over the place. Sometimes it's ok and sometimes it high. 155/75 was my last reading. Looks like a doctor appointment is in my near future. Maybe my BP meds have to be adjusted.

Today's workout

Legs and Abs

Leg Extensions - 6 sets/15-20 reps - increased the weight over last week

Seated Leg Curls - 6 sets/15-20 reps - increased the weight over last week

Life Fitness Glute Machine - 6 sets/20 reps - increased the weight and over last week

Calf Raises on Leg Press Machine - 6 sets/25 reps - increased weight and reps over last week.

Ab Crunches on Incline Bench - 6 sets/25 reps

I significantly increased the weight on all the exercises except the crunches which are not weighted. I didn't feel strong but rather tired and am pleased that I pushed through. Sometimes my best workouts are when I am not feeling it but my mind has to be stronger than my body feels.

Now, it's a weekend off. I am pissed that I gained weight during the Thanksgiving feasts. Not surprising but not happy about it. Just have to get back to it. And I will.

Chest

Cable Chest Presses - 8 sets/12-25 reps

Back

Brignole Lat Pull-ins - 8 sets/18-25 reps - increased the reps

Close Grip Cable Rows for Teres Minor - 5 sets/10-12 reps - increased the weight.

I loaded up the squat/lunge machine to begin my shrugs. But my dizziness got worse and after pulling the weight into position, I realized that I was too lightheaded to continue. I put the weight down and sat down for a bit. But instead of feeling better, I felt punky and remained dizzy. I knew I had to stop at this point.

I have been taking my BP at home several times a day and it's up and down. Sometimes it's okay and sometimes it's very high. I guess an appointment with my internist is coming. My checkup is in March and I wanted to wait but Marie is pushing me to go now. We'll see.

Thanks, Tim! I appreciate your concern. I have been checking my BP many times a day and it's all over the place. At times, it's much too high and at other times, it's very low. Weird. I am on BP meds but the timing of the levels and the meds don't seem to have any correlation.

I am leaving for the lake tomorrow to get the boat into winter storage so I'll be off training until Monday and then I have to decide about calling for an appointment with my internist. I have to get to the bottom of this.

Thanks again.

Today's workout

Shoulders

Standing One-Arm Cable Side Raises - 5 sets/12-18 reps - increased the reps on all sets

Anterior Deltoid Cable Raises - 5 sets/17-20 reps - increased the reps on all sets. My front delts have never been hit so directly.

Someone was on the pec deck so I changed my rear delt exercise to

Cable Reverse Rear Delt Crossovers - 4 sets/8-12 reps - this was serendipity because my rear delts got nailed. It was much more direct than the reverse pec deck.

Biceps

Standing Alternate Cable Curls - 6 sets/10-15 reps - the pump was terrific! Veins were swollen, baby!

Triceps

Two Arm Single Cable Push Downs Seated - 6 sets/15-20 reps - increased the weight on all sets.

Forearms

DB Wrist Curls - 5 sets/25 reps. Increased the weight on all sets.

I had a GREAT workout and there were NO dizzy spells! I can't figure it out. But I'll take it.

Going to the lake tomorrow until Sunday. I am putting the boat into storage on Sat so there will be no workout on Friday. "See" you next week.

Hey, John, what kind of cable apparatus do you use for the alternate cable curls? If it's single or closely spaced double stacks, do you face towards or away from the machine?I

Hope the dizziness goes away and you have a nice time at the lake.

Hi Al,

To answer your question, I use a dual cable machine. I set the pulley low and face almost completely away from the pulley. If I were completely opposite the pulley, the cable would be in line with my leg so I move just enough to have the cable clear of my leg. As with all my exercises, I concentrate on the biceps doing all the work and watch the muscle work.

The dizziness was still there these past few days but it seemed less often. My son in law helped me install the last of the ceiling fans and when I looked up at him on the ladder, I got quite lightheaded and had to sit down for a bit.

Tomorrow, I will call my internist and make an appointment. My BP has been consistently high on my home unit. I will bring it with me to check it against the nurse's reading. My systolic pressure has been mostly over 140 and often over 150. My diastolic has been mostly around mid-80's. Time to get checked out.

I do double cable curls with the same positioning, angling slightly forward, which helps me isolate better.

Hope you get the BP/dizziness issue resolved soon.

Great Workout John! And really great news on the dizzy spells. Just a little on those. I suffered from vertigo a couple years back, was horrible. Getting those "spells" like I was drunk and nearly falling at times., just the worse. But I went I just happen to have a chiro appointment and told him about them, he did whats called the "Eply Maneuver", which is how vertigo is fixed. A couple of sessions of that a viola help liked a champ. I get them on rare occasions but nothing like they were. Ask your doc or chiro about them (Physical therapy does it also)

Thanks, Al. I called the internist's office today. His nurse interviewed me on the phone and said she would speak to the doctor and he will get back to me tomorrow. I am guessing a change in BP meds is coming up.

I am working one arm at a time right now so I can really concentrate on the bicep working rather than working both at the same time. However, I have done it both ways in the past.

Thanks, JD! I am going to the chiropractor tomorrow and I'll ask him about Epley Maneuver. However, I don't think it's vertigo because the ENT asked me if I feel like the room is spinning. It's not like that at all. It's very short spells (5-10 seconds) and a dizziness that can cause me to stumble. The addition of headaches which I have not experienced for many years makes me think it's BP related. Also, my BP has suddenly gotten high after years of good readings.

Cable Chest Presses - 8 sets/10-25 reps - increased the weight across all sets

Back

Brignole Lat Pull-ins - 8 sets/13-25 reps - increased the weight across all sets.

Close Grip Cable Rows for Teres Minor - 5 sets/10-15 reps - increased the weight across all sets.

Shrugs on Lunge Machine - 5 sets/12 reps/220 lbs. - increased the weight across all sets.

No appreciable dizziness today! BP was still high today but a bit lower during all tests.

Legs and Abs

Leg Extensions - 6 sets/15-20 reps - increased the weight over last week

No dizziness again today. Added meds are arriving on Tuesday. My BP seems to have already stabilized but it's still a bit high.

Thank you, JD, Al and Pixie. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good weekend. Pre Christmas chores had a bad effect on my lower back. Also, I had a bad headache last night and several dizzy spells. Back to the future. Damn. However, today when my back was still hurting, I put my TENS unit on it for a couple of hours and it's MUCH better. Tonight I'll employ it again. No headache this afternoon and only minor dizziness. Tomorrow's workout will depend upon how I feel when I wake up tomorrow. Minor back pain and minor dizziness and it's a go. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Today's workout

Chest

Cable Chest Presses - 8 sets/10-25 reps - increased the weight across all sets

Back

Brignole Lat Pull-ins - 8 sets/14-20 reps - increased the weight across all sets.

A headache emerged during the chest work and got progressively worse. I pushed through and had a good workout but I had to skip the cable rows and the shrugs.

My added BP med arrived today and I added it tonight. However, my BP has been good the last two days so I don't know what's going on. I have to hope that it doesn't' get too low now with the added medicine.

Today's workout

Shoulders

Standing One-Arm Cable Side Raises - 5 sets/10-13 reps - increased the weight on all sets

Anterior Deltoid Cable Raises - 5 sets/10-18 reps - increased the weight on all sets

Cable Reverse Rear Delt Crossovers - 5 sets/8-14 reps - increased the weight on all sets

Biceps

Standing Alternate Cable Curls - 6 sets/10-15 reps - increased the reps on all sets

Triceps

Two Arm Single Cable Push Downs Seated - 6 sets/15-20 reps - increased the reps on all sets.

This workout was GREAT! I felt very strong and really increased either the weight used or the reps - significantly. The three heads on my shoulders showed excellent separation. The front delt exercise is terrific. I have never felt my front delts so directly involved. I felt especially strong on bicep and tricep work. The bicep pump was awesome!

And the best part is that my BP and dizziness was not a problem at all. My chiropractor showed me a method to get up from a seated position that can help but, actually, I didn't need it. No headache either! I am keeping my fingers crossed that this crap is in my rearview mirror.

That's my last workout this week with Christmas Eve tomorrow. I want to wish all my friends here a Merry Christmas. May Santa have the mistaken idea that you were good and bring you what you dream of. For me, I have no wants other than health for me and my family. Life is good!

John, I hope your recent spells of dizziness pass quickly and your back stops giving you grief! I can only sympathise and send you some virtual love and best wishes.

I hope you and the family all have a nice and safe Christmas.

Spencer, we had a great Christmas, thank you! I hope you had a good holiday as well. My back is not good and never will be but it's nothing compared to what you are going through. I hope you find relief soon, my friend.

Thanks, brother! I hope you had a great Christmas as well. Of course, I ate way too much.

Today's workout

Legs and Abs

Leg Extensions - 6 sets/18-20 reps - increased the weight over last week and increased the reps on most sets.

Seated Leg Curls - 6 sets/15-20 reps - increased the weight over last week and increased the reps on most sets

Life Fitness Glute Machine - 6 sets/20 reps - increased the weight over last week

Calf Raises on Leg Press Machine - 6 sets/20-25 reps - increased weight over last week.

Skipped abs because I had cramps last time and I was a bit dizzy today while doing glutes.

Rest tomorrow.

Yesterday's workout

Chest

Cable Chest Presses - 8 sets/10-25 reps - increased the weight across all sets

Back

Brignole Lat Pull-ins - 8 sets/15-20 reps - increased the weight across all sets.

Cable Close Grip Teres Minor Rows - 5 sets/8-10 reps - I increased the weight on every set over the last time I did these.

Since the holidays really messed up my routine and I had a bad night of sleep on Tuesday night, I skipped training on Wed and did this routine on Thursday. Well, I felt really strong and hit my rep goals while again adding weight all through the routine. Today my pecs, back and rear delts are all sore but a good soreness. There are times you are just feeling it and this was one of those times.

Now, I'll be training shoulders and arms tomorrow (Sat). I don't know if I can duplicate my intensity but I will give it my all.

Today's workout

Shoulders

Standing One-Arm Cable Side Raises - 5 sets/15 reps - increased the reps on all sets. I changed my position on these today after watching a video of Gaspari doing these with a lean away from the cable. I liked it.

Anterior Deltoid Cable Raises - 5 sets/13-20 reps - increased the reps on all sets

Cable Reverse Rear Delt Crossovers - I skipped these because my rear delts were still sore from Thursday's workout. They are a small muscle and can be easily overworked.

Biceps

Standing Alternate Cable Curls - 6 sets/8-12 reps - increased the weight on all sets

Triceps

Two Arm Single Cable Push Downs Seated - 6 sets/18-25 reps - increased the reps on all sets. I tried to increase the weight but there was no way I could pull it into position. I guess I'll have to stay with this weight.

No forearm work due to continued pain in my hands and wrists.

This was another excellent workout. My anterior delts are really feeling this exercise and my arms were super pumped today.

Rest tomorrow.

Life Fitness Glute Machine - 6 sets/20 reps - increased the weight over last week

Ab Crunches - 3 sets/25 reps - damn cramps! My abs went into spasm as I ended my 3rd set. I got into position for the next set after rest but they went into spasm again so that was the end.

I increased my weight on every exercise and still met my rep goals.

Rest tomorrow.
