Good job on the deads.... Funny how 4 reps of a heavy DL can wipe you out, eh???

I have to tell myself Deads require more recovery between sets, if I want to do a good job on them.... Remember to BREATHE! ;~)

I think this is KEY.

Lighter exercizes tend to get less rest between so we tend to forget that DL's and Squats are not lighter exercizes... Give yourself an extra 2 minutes to recover on the big ones... You'll notice a big diff.... ;~)

I think I was about two minutes between sets... by the time I added the weights to the bar for the next set and caught my breath a tad, it must have been about two minutes. On this I'll have to keep a closer eye!

Thanks, Stingo!

Well, this is only temporary... I used to do mornings for about seven years, but now I'm used to getting up at 6:00am instead of being at work for two hours by that time! I do like the solitude and quiet though!

Goodness knows where this motivation is coming from. I have a headache, I'm tired and my kid wants me to go get pizza. I love pizza.... but it won't be conducive to the fitness challenge I'm in. However, since my schedule is all outta whack, so is my weak attempt at a proper diet. I'm not used to eating at 4:00am... only a few more days though!

Here's how today's workout shaped up:

Warm up for a couple of minutes

Incline B-Press: 10x60lbs/10x80lbs/8x90lbs/6x100lbs
Flat B-Press: 10x60lbs/10x80lbs/8x90lbs/8x100lbs
EZ Bar Curls: 10x20lbs/10x30lbs/8x40lbs/6x50lbs
Conc. Curls: 10x10lbs/10x15lbs/8x20lbs/6x20lbs
Skullcrushers: 10x30lbs/10x40lbs/8x45lbs/6x50lbs
Close Grip Pushups: 2x10/1x9 (Just couldn't get one more in there)
Leg Raises: 3x15
Crunches: 3x20

I swear I still have a knot in a muscle under or near my right shoulder blade. It felt weird doing the pushups and skullcrushers. Need to see a massage person about this I think.

I focused more on correct breathing.... I always thought I was not holding my breath, but I caught myself doing that once in a while, so I must be doing it more than I thought I was. I also took at least a minute and a half to a two minute rest between sets. I have this feeling my triceps will ache tomorrow.

Went skating today... we're at about plus 11 Celsius today... so, needless to say, the lake was a little sloppy... but hell, beats minus 40 any day... skated about 40 minutes or so, not real hard as I'm trying to figure out how to stop without killing myself or pile into some poor kid...

As for the workout, it was at home and goes as follows:

Warm-up: Five minutes on the mini-trampoline
BB SLDL: 70lbsx10/90lbsx10/130lbsx8/150lbsx8
Leg Xtns: 50lbsx10/70lbsx10/80lbsx8/90lbsx8
Ball Hyperextensions: 3x10
Bent Over DB Lats: 10lbsx10/10lbsx10/15lbsx8/15lbsx8
Seated (On the ball) DB Presses: 10lbsx10/15lbsx10/20lbsx8/25lbsx6
Ball Crunches: 3x15
Twisting Crunches on the ball: 2x15

That's it...

Three more sleeps and it's off to VEGAS Baby! Woo-hoo!

Today I was thinking of doing the back and chest. I really wanted to do Deadlifts, but, I changed my mind. We're going to Vegas Thursday night and the last thing I want is DOMS on an airplane.

So instead, 30 minutes of cardio on the mini-trampoline.

ta-da...

Back from Vegas... and while I can say I didn't exercise (well, some push ups and some crunches in the hotel room), I did walk the Strip to what amounted two as about twice. At least. Put on some serious miles, I did...

Now, I'm home, tired and beat, but I still managed to get in about 10 minutes of HIIT on the mini-trampoline at about 75% heart rate... so, at least I accomplished that!

Okay... I have to work on the grip some more... I have some of those squeeze things with the spring... I'll be using those I think... the reason? Couldn't get a fifth rep on the final set of deads today... same weight, just can't get the barbell off the ground... well, I probably could, but I don't want to drop it as my hands were starting to slip on the fourth... so, more grip strength...

Here's the workout:

Warm up - five minutes on the mini-trampoline

Deadlifts: 120lbsx10/150lbsx10/190lbsx8/240lbsx4
T-Bar Rows: 75lbsx10/85lbsx10/100lbsx8/115lbsx8
Sissy Squats: 0x10/10lbsx10/10lbsx10/10lbsx10
Ball Rolls: 3x15
Twisting Crunches on the ball: 3x15 (each side)
Crunches on the ball: 3x15

That's it... gonna start trying to strengthen the grip some more...I do want to hit a PR of 300lbs on the deads.

Are you using a reverse grip? one over, one underhand?
I started using chalk and can now do my PR with a parallel grip, try some.
Also check with Wicked Willie on some grip stuff or check my log for what I have been using. Seems to help.

Thanks man... but, when I'm doing deads, I'm doing them in my house and I don't think my wife would appreciate the chalk... oh, I've thought about it, but I've also thought of any negative repurcusions.

As for the grip, I have been doing one overhand and one underhand grip. I'll take a closer cruise through your log along with Willies...!

Thanks, Steven....

No more mornings... at least for now... things are going to be back to normal starting Monday... of course, normal is all relative. So, back to regular eating habits and normal sleep patterns.

EZ Bar Curls: 20lbsx10/30lbsx10/40lbsx8/50lbsx7
Conc Curls: 10lbsx10/15lbsx10/15lbsx8/25lbsx5 (I did six on the right arm)
Skullcrushers: 30lbsx10/40lbsx10/45lbsx8/50lbsx6

Warm-up - Five minutes on the mini-trampoline

Leg Xtns: 50lbsx10/70lbsx10/80lbsx8/90lbsx8 (these are much easier on the machine at the gym. I guess not easier, more comfortable. The foamy things on the bench don't stop the bar from cutting into the back of my knee...)
BB SLDL: 7olbsx10/90lbsx10/130lbsx8/150lbsx8 (I added shrugs to these too, as I brought the bar up I did shrugs.)
Side DB Lat Raises: 10lbsx10/10lbsx10/15lbsx8/15lbsx8
Seated DB Presses: 10lbsx10/15lbsx10/15lbsx8/20lbsx8
Ball Crunches: 3x20
Leg Raises: 3x15
Finished with a little stretching.

This was supposed to be tomorrow's workout, but I have an appointment in the morning.. so, did it today instead...

My gym is closed tomorrow as it's a holiday here in Alberta... so, I was going to do my Monday workout today... but, we wound up getting groceries instead. We also bought a picture which resulted in the rearrangement of our living room... so, I'll do my Monday workout tomorrow evening at home.

What I did do today was about 15 minutes of stretching...

Hey, I remember that: also known as "February doesn't have a holiday, so we're going to make something up" Day. Too bad the Klein-clones in BC haven't copied that piece of policy.

Ya.. funny thing is, just about the entire province is working.. so I'm thinking that maybe the only people that have it off are the Provincial Employees...

Warm up for five minutes on the mini trampoline
ATG Squats: 70lbsx10/90lbsx10/100lbsx8/120lbsx6
BB SLDL: 70lbsx10/90lbsx10/130lbsx8/160lbsx8
Side DB Raises: 10lbsx10/10lbsx10/15lbsx8/20lbsx6
Front DB Raises: 10lbsx10/10lbsx10/15lbsx8/15lbsx6
DB Wrist Curls: 10lbsx10/10lbsx10/15lbsx10/15lbsx10
Stomach Vacs: 4 x 30 seconds.

I was going to do more ab work, but it was already an hour and 45 minutes...

I gotta tell ya, those squats are killer. The last rep on the last set was a super challenge to get up. Good golly... got 'er done though! Might have been able to squeeze one more out, but why hurt myself?

Way to go Tim. Bold of you to try the deeper squats. You'll love 'em, I'm sure.

Chest and back today...

Warm up for five minutes on the eliptical

Smith Incline Press: 65lbsx10/75lbsx10/85lbsx8/110lbsx7
Pec Deck: 45lbsx10/65lbsx10/75lbsx8/95lbsx6
Ball Push Ups: 3x10
Low Cable Seated Rows: 8px10/9px10/10px8/10px6
Lat Pull Downs: 7px10/8px10/9px8/10px8
Ball Crunches: 2x20
Leg Raises on Incline Bench: 2x10... these felt weird... don't think I'll do them again...
Stretched

Upped the weight on the Smith Incline from last week... and I think I popped a blood vessel in my hand when I did the push-ups... hurts like a son of a gun.

Thanks, Lisa!

You know, it never hurt when I did... It was only after I got to work... I noticed it hurt, took a look and there is a little bruise on the inside of my hand... That's it! I quit exercising! hahaha... kidding...

I think you'd really like Gironda press (on the Smith). It really hits the Pecs... Cajin or Willie can describe it really well if you are interested. It would make a good supplement to your chest day. It's not hard on shoulders either...
