Nothing works like accountability to carry us through the rocky holiday months, so let's get accountable.

We'll start on Monday, October 13 and wrap this up Monday, December 29 -- 11 weeks to take us confidently and aggressively through the food and layoff holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Your choices are wide. Whatever you need to address, be it fat loss, not missing a workout, adding cardio to your training, quitting smoking, increasing protein intake, decreasing alcohol... you get to choose your challenge, determine it, describe it... own it.

For the instruction needy, here's more (the rest of you can click off now).

Three useful sub-forums: Training Plans, Diet Plans and Weekly Reports.

In the training section, you'll find a selection of 11-week workout routines to choose from, and of course, you can write up your own. The point is to follow a plan, not just toss something in the air and hope it works (unless, of course, you're incredibly rigid and a random routine is a challenge for you, in which case, have at it!).

The Diet Plan forum will address your questions or take your suggestions for a menu plan that you can stick with successfully through the holidays. Plan to take control of your eating; be the boss of your kitchen.

Weekly reports work. Participants are required -- can we say this without losing all the rebels? -- to report in on Mondays. We want an honest assessment of the prior week's successes. Everyone will start a new thread in this section to describe his or her target and plan, whatever that shall be.

Each Monday's update will be a continuation of that member's opening challenge thread and will include whatever is important to that person: bodyweight, caliper bodyfat percentage, waist measurement, average daily calorie intake, link to online fitday account, macronutrient percentage, number of workouts, cardio training, weight workouts, number of cigarettes smoked or alcohol consumed... whatever the goal is should be documented in Monday's update posts.

Those arriving late to the party, you're welcome to join in whenever you get here.

Be well, be in control of yourself at a time when the rest of the world spins out. What a great way to welcome the New Year!

Great idea Laree - always looking out for the IOL family and making it fun in the process.

I know I respond better to "challenges" especially with the accountability factor. Let the games begin.

I have a good training program laid out already, but I would like to see some the other 10 week programs you mentioned. Will they be posted soon at the other topic board?

And yes dear, I will be adding more consistent cardio to my plan.

Yes, I'll pull out some programs that we've used before, and hopefully a few other people will post routines.

Anyone who has a workout plan to share, please feel free to post it in the Training Plan section. We need a variety since some of us have gym memberships, some have dumbbells at home, others may have kettlebells or outdoor training gear, some are heading into winter and some heading into summer... fat loss or power gains... anything goes!

Yes, we've all started a new thread to list our goals and weekly reports. Here's how to start a new topic, if you'd like to jump aboard.

My reminder just came up on my Outlook this last Monday. I've been meaning to hop over here and ask about the EOY challenge. :)

Just what I needed....In July I secured a new job and did not realize that it would require an 11 to 12 hour day...I start at 6:00 am and work usually until around 6:00 pm sometimes longer.. I've got to carve out a spot of time each day to workout..Perhaps this EOY challenge will get me up and at it again...Thanks again Dave and Laree for all you do...
God bless,

This is the first time I am doing any online forum posts.
I am a regular reader of Dave's column and a dedicated reader of both the books he has written - "BISS" and "IOMM". Actually, these are the two books I read almost every day :) no kidding. I guess I need a constant reminder of what I need to do.

Do we have a consolidated list of what people's "taken challenges" are? may be it will help me get my own.

Glad to see you here -- I'm glad you stepped forward to post.

We don't have a consolidated list -- everyone's choices are completely different, individual. That's a good thing, makes your choice wide open. Do you have a single problem you encounter every time we hit the holiday season? Or something that's just nagging at you that you've been meaning to fix? That one thing that popped into your head just now... that's your year-end target. Get typing!

Seriously, I hope you take up the challenge.

If anyone wants his or her training log moved over into the main Training Log section, give me a holler. I'll be moving this thread to the archives soon.

Hi Laree, I followed to the letter the workout you prescribed for me until my left forearm started to hurt. I then drifted away from lifting - doing only one set slowely until failure. The result has not been good. My forearm and shoulder are now free from pain but I would not like to aggravate the shoulder. I would appreciate if you could suggest another workout for me. The workout you had suggested for me was 3 sets barbell press, 3 sets pull down, 3sets rowing, 3 sets of dips 3 times a week. The workout I am doing now is aerobics 5 days a week +working one body part. The result is I lost 20lb . My body now is the smaller size of the bigger body. The belly still hangs out. My diet consists of cereal and low fat milk for breakfast + banana. Peanut butter sandwich for lunch and chicken curry+ 2 cups of rice for dinner and banana.

Laree, I should have mentioned in the previous post that the Doctor misdiagiosed my fat situation. In truth I am not insulin resistant; thus I do not use meformin and beyeta any more. These drugs made me dizzy.

Hi, Rab. I was hoping to get you to start a new thread in the main forum section instead of in these two archives. How about if we bump your last workout thread and try to re-work it there? Click here.

You're Challenged!
01-04-10 07:12 PM - Post#597884

I aim to keep on using the same log.

Goal 1: Don't stress about missing 1 workout, but never go below 2 weight sessions a week unless really sick.

Goal 2: Keep diet and cardio on track to get between 10-15% bodyfat but no higher while preferably not dropping my weight below 225.
(Thanks to my affection for eggnog and hot buttered rum I am sitting at 240.)

My ultimate goal, and it may not happen this year, is to get enough muscle and low enough fat to where maybe a small local natural contest may be realistic. Not necessarily winning, but not looking like a dork for trying.
I've also thought about doing the local highland games sometime just for fun.

Edit*
Oh, I didn't realize this topic was from last year.
