Thanks. Been re-reading some threads on ES and the variations about how to progress whilst keeping on the right side of easy, without having to rely on "feel", which for me at least is the path to the dark side (boredom/programme creep/doing more/going too heavy and missing/doing other stuff), so this was insightful.

Rather than stick to the suggested 80%1RM ceiling, I'm trying to link reps to percentages - so sets of five are 60-70%, sets of three 70-80%, sets of two 80-90% and an odd single at 90+. Some of us need progress and/or the odd heavy double to maintain interest I guess.

Increase I'm trying to limit increases much more, to 1kg per week with biscuit plates. Ultimately I think what I need for this to work is to accept is this is a programme for forever and forget doing anything else, well til I can't lift anymore.
