I was wondering if any of you had heard of red light therapy?I just joined planet fitness and they have these little chambers with a vibrating floor and the red light therapy thing all around you.I just wondered what you people thought pro and con about this.

I have seen something similar being used on horses with good results. However, it is hand held and used at contact distance.

In regards to, "Can it hurt?" According to the Harvard Gazette, no....

Benefits? No one is quite sure right now.

I think that they will do anything to attract a new clientele and try the newest fad. That being said, light therapy as such is not a new thought by any means. Light waves have been and are used in many ways. The technology will catch up with the color therapy concept, too.

I think the main difference can be in the quality of the light. Is it just a shaking hell disco or should the red light be used with more focus and purpose?
Interesting. Try it and see how you feel afterwards.

Light wave is very useful in traumatic brain injury therapy on a neurological level.

Interesting story of Jon Grant, and how his wife is helping him rehab from a TBI he sustained from an auto accident.

I have read that Harvard article. It was interesting, yet inconclusive. I use an infrared dry sauna. I do not believe it is miraculous in any way, but I do seem to have fewer aches and pains the next day.

Many IRD saunas are adding red light therapy. A gym chain, Hot Worx, builds IRD saunas with red light therapy and they offer HIIT, yoga, isometric workouts. We used to do that when I was a teen. We would drag the bench and weights outside in that scorching Mediterranean Sacramento summer. Benching, curling (We were teens!), sweating, and getting tan all in one workout.

I agree with Pixie, anything to get us in the door. Although I was/am not familiar with red light therapy and TBI. I wonder, if found successful, if it would be beneficial for stroke patients?

Thank you for the post and link. It was interesting to see the therapy and progress. He is lucky his wife has been so proactive. I am not sure many spouses would hang in there.
