It's available, I just got it and was able to read the first few chapters, before heading off for a trip

I really like it so far, and am excited to continue on next week!

I've only got as far as studying the Table of Contents, and even from that I can tell it'll be awesome!

Part Two especially, for me.

All Nice and Right Then!
Taking it real slow and savory with your book. Just finished taking my time with Appreciating Those Who Went Before, and
Man! Real beautiful stuff there, Boss!!!

Thanks again for writing, and for honestly opening yourself up so others can improve their view of so many things.

Would love a copy of this book ! I am going to buy !

I keep hitting Paperback tab on the link but nothing seems to be happening. Will try again later.

Mr Dan John, how hard would it be for you to pen a few words on inside front cover & sign a copy for me after I purchase a book ?

Hi, Andrew, do you mean this link:

https://www.otpbooks.com/product/40_years_with _a_whistle/

If so, look up to the top right at the red circle next to My Cart. Is there a number there? Could be each time you click, you're adding it to the cart. Let me know what you see -- I can help. Sorry for the hassle!

Oh! But wait! I think you may be able to buy it from Amazon Australia and not pay extra shipping. I'm waiting on a proof copy to approve the printing -- they have a new program where they print one copy at a time in the home country. We still print quantity in the US, but have this new program set up for other countries that really saves a bundle on shipping.

That doesn't work for Dan signing it, of course. If you still want to do that, let me know and I can set that up. But check the shipping costs first -- it's likely to be more than the cost of the book!

My Cart was definitely 0. Could be my connection. I am at Home today, not at work. It Keeps doing the "round the world" circle without connecting.

That's o.k. I might purchase from Amazon Australia. There would be no Shipping costs. Will have to take my family to the States in a few years & do the California/Disney Land thing then try & get the Book signed.

Thankyou for your time & advice Laree.

Dang! Just checked again and it's working for me. I'll let our tech guy know, but if he can't duplicate it...like you said, could be a local issue.

I should get the Amazon book proof today. If it looks okay, I'll approve it right away and get this going. I got a proof last week and it had a cover size issue, so I had to redo the file. Hopefully this one will be okay! Will come back and let you know.

Okay, international Amazon edition is approved. It's "in review," says if it passes review, it takes up to 72 hours to become available. Could be the international edition orders get delivered before our US print run!

Got a message from Amazon -- international print is approved and live in the UK, other countries should appear over the next day or two.

Our US printer is binding today and will ship Monday. We should have those in stock mid-week.

Dan, I am happy to assist in anyway possible on the Sunday if you or QLD Kettlebells need me at all ? I can even Drive you to the Airport or your Accommodation if you need a Lift on that day. I can totally understand if this doesn't suit.

I cannot do the Saturday due to kids Sporting activities & other family Events. Sorry to stuff you around like this.

Otherwise, I have just sent a quick e-mail to the qldkettlebells address provided on the Newsletter. I asked them if it would be possible for folks like me to have a chance to quickly say G'Day & thankyou for your years of wisdom either before or after the Seminar ?

It is Easter Monday here at the moment. Will probably get a response back tomorrow.

P.S Laree- if you are reading this. I will be going on Amazon Australia first thing tomorrow at work, to purchase the Book.

Many thanks,
Andrew

I’ve now read through the book once (mostly...I skipped a couple of the appendices that were reprints from other sources), and listened to the audio. (The audio is totally worth it, especially for the surprise guest star)

I really like this book. I expect it will get a lot of flack on two fronts. First, it’s not much in the way of a “do this” book. There’s not a lot of set/rep schemes, programs, and training templates. Personally, I am fine with this, as I have enough programs to literally last me a lifetime. I really don’t need ANOTHER book full of training programs.

Second, it will get some flack because “Dan John just says the same thing over and over”, which...I mean, there is some repetition from previous books, but there’s also a lot new here, and some of the repetition is expanded or explain much more thoroughly than in previous books.Again, I personally don’t mind re-reading things, so...meh.

Personally, I really enjoyed it. I enjoy stories, which this book is full of, but there’s also something about this book that, for me, invited a … I was going to say dialogue, but maybe soliloquy is a the more appropriate term. I found myself putting down the book, or stopping the audio to reflect on my own 10 commandments, or how my experiences matched up with Dan’s. I could probably write a whole book of me responding to each chapter with my own thoughts. I really like that...I like books that make me think and reflect. I’ve gone through a lot of lifestyle changes in the last two years, and this book is really valuable in helping me reflect on where I want to take my training, among other things. And that is worth more to me than another pile of sets and reps.

Really valuable book, for those willing to invest the time with it.

I received my Copy of this Book yesterday. Thankyou Laree.

Initial thoughts.... Very easy to read. A host of information with tidbits/quotes & Stories from former Mentors, Dan's early Life experiences, earlier Childhood Sporting Glories & Life lessons learnt along the way.

On a personal level, I have learnt so much about Dan's past that are similiar to mine growing up, even though we are from different eras, such as a family member serving in Vietnam war ( My dad) & Family alcohol issues.(My dad again)as well as his connection with Ireland. ( My mother was born & bred in County Louth.)

Very honest Book. This is not my final book review. I will give a more thorough & comprehensive Book review when I finish reading " 40 years with a whistle."

This is the kind of book you could pass onto your Son or daughter when they are older for them to benefit from.

P.S Dan is the worst Wingman of all time. You need to buy the book to find out more.

I finished the Book over the weekend. Great read. Really enjoyed it.

A wealth of information. I will give a more thorough Review on Wednesday.

Dan - you had some wonderful Mentors growing up. Bill Witt, Ralph Maughan, Dick Notmeyer, Sister Maria to mane a few.

I have written down a heap of notes & need to gather my thoughts & re-read a few things. I will bring it all together without giving away the Plot/book so to speak.

This is your best Book to date.

As promised, here is my Book review that I intend to Post on Amazon Australia. Word for word.

Dan John is a Man of many talents. He is an experienced & respected Educator, Philosopher, Writer, Student & Traveller. He is also a devoted Husband, Father, Athlete with State Championship records, Adventurer & world renowned Strength Coach. The Author has had many Life experiences, had his share of Ups & Downs, discovered key learnings, had good times & bad, gone through Money worries, lonliness, self-doubt, sleep deprivation, success, happiness & Childhood challenges that could have filled 2 Lifetimes let alone 62 years.

This Book, “40 Years with a Whistle”, is the Author’s honest attempt to capture all his worldly advice, trials & tribulations in 330 pages, with his many years of Parenting, teaching,Coaching & competing.
The Book is neatly broken into 3 main parts. 1 ) “Commandments”, 2) “Appreciating those who went before”, 3) “What I know now”

You will discover early the amount of positive Role models & Mentors that My John was fortunate enough to have had growing up in California. From Sister Maria with her “Rest, Play, Work, Pray” to Dick Notmeyer & his “ Leg strength, Pull strength, tranquil mind” keys to John Powell & Bill Witt’s yearly Discus Camps, it is evident that Mr John was truly Blessed with wonderful & positive influences that shaped his life for the better & made him the very Man he is, for the Decades to come. Mr John does his utmost to pay homage to these “Life changers” with their quotes, mannerisms & stories that will interest the Reader to the very end. In return, the Author does his best to “hand down the baton” to those who are willing enough & smart enough to listen & learn.

“40 Years with a Whistle” travels through many Chapters, each with a unique Story or Key Message that the Reader would be unwise to ignore. From Dan’s “10 Greatest mistakes” (Yes, Crossfit is one of them) to “ 10 Commandments of Teaching” the pages are turned quickly & once you’ve commenced, very hard to put down.

Mr John’s life journey hasn’t always been paved with Gold. – From an Alcoholic father, to working 3 jobs including Night shifts , to having money issues, battling lonliness, coaching, injuries & Marriage strains, this could have led the Author down another road, but, he “Never let go” of his Goals, ambition or the Big Picture, making him into a much sort after Strength Coach, Teacher & Writer in the world today.

For the budding weight lifters & strength enthusiasts who have grown up with Dan John, I don’t believe you will be disappointed. There is more than enough “pearls of wisdom” sprinkled throughout the book to keep your appetite satisfied. The author shares with you his Game changers, biggest mistakes & various programmes that not only work but have stood the test of time. Although, this is not like previous “Dan John” books with laid out instructions, sets & reps, you will walk away much wiser & Mind much the clearer after reading “ 40 years with a Whistle.”

There are a host of programmes that are discussed in fleeting detail that will cover your training needs forever. Programmes & ideas such as
- Dan John’s Transformation Programme
- Humane Burpee
- One Lift a day
- Pavel’s “Rite of Passage’
- Mass Made simple
- Easy strength
- Kettlebell’s
- 100 rep challenges
- 10 000 swing & other swing variations
- 40 day Workout programme

Not to mention Tim Anderson & his “ Original strength” all in the 1 book….Wow.

It is very hard to find fault with “40 years with a Whistle’ or offer points for improvement but as a “ Rugby Diehard”, I would loved to have heard the Author elaborate more with his time supporting Connaught Rugby & offer more of his thoughts on the Game.

If you see yourself as a Manager, Leader, Teacher or future Sports Coach, then this book is for you. Personally, I could relate to many of these Stories outlined in the book as I am currently managing a work team with various strengths & weaknesses.

This is a book I will proudly hand down to my Son when he enters Manhood in the years to come. “40 years with a Whistle” will still have the same relevance in 30 to 40yrs now than it does today. In short, it will “Age” well.

This is a book you will read more than once because of the enormous amount of tidbits/quotes strewn throughout the Pages that you will need to continually thumb through to recall, like “4 F’s” of Life lessons to Earl Nightingale’s meaning of “Success”. In fact, I strongly recommend you keep “40 years with a whistle” on your favourite coffee table so you can access it at your leisure.

I'm still enjoying the book on my to-work commute. There's a lotta gems in there, buddy . . . they keep popping up out of what I didn't catch the first time around. And like so much of your stuff, Dan, they're applicable to the whole of life, not just this or that.

About halfway through, I'm really enjoying each chapter. This fills a lot of gaps for me, giving background to each DJ program / idea that I've tried / read about previously.

Makes me realize I know nothing about sports really. I wish I had been involved in track & field or throwing when I was young, but I'm glad to have discovered Dan John when I did in my mid-30s.

Very funny and filled with lots of great insights. Thank you, Dan. What can you possibly write next?

Just finished the ebook Kindle version. It took two days, could not stop reading. :)

I liked the deep insight and background of things. I’’ve read all Dan’s book and this one is a great ”supplement”. I think I’’m going to re-read soon.

One funny thing: I just keep on watching Google Street view of 790 Moana Way, looking the carage and thinking ”is this really the place?” I feel exactly same as I did when visiting the original Golds Gym in Venice CA...

I've gone back to the "mentors" section a few times when I needed a wakeup.

Just real nice stuff there.
And so refreshing!
