Hi gang. It's me. New year and time for some new thoughts. After the last Bash and Coach Pendlays seminar, his words hit home, as for being realistic in our training that is.
I realize I do not need a 450lb squat or 315lb bench to be in shape for what I do. I climb poles and hunt. That's pretty much it, besides walking long distances. That being said, I will focus on the training best suited for my work and adventures and that is pretty much what I've been doing.
I've taken the handle of Norsehunter as I'm of Norwegian descent(2nd generation in this country) and I hunt. Go figure.
I have also given up the MMA training and refereeing. That's for a much younger crowd. I don't miss the aches and ibuprofen either.
There you have it. Same ol' same ol', new year.
For he today that sheds his blood with mine, shall forever be my brother.

Here is a picture from our last hunt of the season. Two weeks ago, 4 of us went down south and shot five does to end the antlerless season. I got one nice size doe, all dressed out, cut up, ground and some steaks. Season is officially over. I'll head into the woods in the morning and take down some stands until next fall.
Last weekend we cooked up a hog I shot last year in Texas and all us hunters had a feast, along with the wives, on Super Bowl Sunday. The roast hog was so-o-o-o good. Already looking forward to the next one. Hope to bag a few next month in Texas.

Staying in shape for hunting... sounds like a good plan to me!

I understand in Texas there's no shortage of Hogs to hunt.

Sometimes just a shortage of land to hunt them on. Hogs are a real problem but everyone wants to charge people to get rid of them. Must not be that much of a problem.

I had a similar thought while watching a documentary about the hog problem. One segment had some hunters catch a hog for a research project. After measurements were taken, they released it. They didn't seam to tag it attach a tracking device. It it were as big a problem as they were saying, I'd expect them to harvest the pig after measuring.

Our son made a trip last fall to Finland and brought me home a Finnish made hunting knife. Pretty nice. I hope to get to use it next month.
Looks like I loaded three of the same pic. Hmmm.

Leaving for Texas myself on the 18th of March until the 28th. I'll be cruising thru KC around 6AM, stopping in OKC for a bit. Don't know if I'll drive straight thru or spend the night there. Will know more as the day draws near. Now Deb and I will have a half way point to crash on our way south. Hint, hint, wink, wink, nod, nod.

Texas was nice. Warm and sunny and lots of game.
I brought my weight vest along and did a morning walk/run daily. 1/4 mile walk out to the paved road, then a 1/2 mile jog to the bridge, which is closed for repairs, then back again. I took 5lbs of lead out of the left side and replaced it with a loaded "Judge", just for snakes.
I managed to shoot 4 hogs, 7 raccoons, and 2 javelina. John shot 3 hogs and a rattlesnake and Nick shot 2 hogs. We all fished a bit and landed 40 striped bass.
All in all, a good trip. Freezers are almost full.

Deb finally got her bear back from a new taxidermist. The original taxidermist "lost" our hides for well over two years. After he "found' them, still frozen in his cooler, I took them elsewhere and here is the product. She is one happy hunter, albeit short one love seat in the livingroom now.

You and Deb are two of the most interesting folks I have ever met. Never a dull moment with you two.

I miss our social and training times we had at Ft Leavenworth.

Denton is right off I35 as you head south for your next hunting trip.

I expect you two to stop in for a stay.

Here's a little one that we caught, then released. Estimated it to be about 40lbs. Timmy, holding the flathead, is 315lbs and 6'3" tall for reference on the fish size.
