I did once from violent coughing. Felt like a broken rib, but I am sure it was a muscle or a muscle attachment. It took a month or two for the pain to go away. Don't have anything to suggest beyond patience and to see an MD.

Sounds painful! Wish there was an answer other than the "rest" one you don't want to hear.

You might have popped loose a bit of the grisle between your ribs. If so:Good news, itll heal on its own. Bad news is it takes a long time, and hurts like a bugger till its plum better.

Kenny, a sneeze!?! I can't believe it. (I think you could stand on the roof and drop Atlas stones on Ken and it wouldn't really bother him.)

The thoracic vertebrae - the ones attached to the ribs - often go out along with the rib. A chiropractor can usually put it back, which may help the soft tissue heal faster. The foam roller does a good job on this too, just rolling the mid back on the foam roller. That will also get the area moving a bit, and relax the surrounding muscles so one problem doesn't spread.

Ice should help, anti-inflammatories maybe, but I know you have the home team on all that.

Been there, too, following a sneeze while slumping at my desk (I know - poor posture). Kind of felt like two ribs rubbed against each other. Didn't think about seeing the Chiropractor, just waited it out.

Now this may sound rude, but it's exactly the opposite; I mean it as an extreme compliment. Are there other competitors in Joe's age group?

Not taken that way Laree Joe defeated a long time rival and friend ( everyone is Joe's friend) Arnold KHALFIN who was in his day an olympic competitor
Khalfin, a former Soviet national weightlifting champ, won the men's 132.2-pound division at the world masters championships

Read my post and meant to say yes it was not taken as rude but as a compliment. Part of the battle or goal is to be the last man standing/ lifting
