Heavy Metals in Whey Protein

With the recent lab results from Consumer Reports wherein they found heavy metals when testing some popular brands of whey protein, consumers understandably want to know where their whey is coming from. Our whey protein comes from one source, Hilmar Cheese, here in central California. The reason you won't get that information from most brands is most manufacturers use whatever protein is cheapest at the time—they don't commit to one manufacturer in the way we have.

We know for a fact we pay approximately three times the cost of most whey protein raw material, and of course, that's why we don't sell the final product for the same price as Costco or GNC.

Additionally, our blending lab, Protein Research, is fastidious in their processing. They were way ahead of the game when it comes to raw material ingredient testing, and always rate superior during outside audits such as the American Institute of Baking and other food safety inspectors.

Attached the official response from Hillmar, where our lab gets the cold-processed whey we use. Bottom line: They test every protein lot for arsenic, cadmium and lead, and they have mercury tested quarterly by an outside lab. Levels are typically zero, and at no time have the results for any element surpassed 0.5ppm.

Our calcium caseinate comes from New Zealand, and I’m attaching a copy of the metals testing results from there—in particular, see page 12.

*Note*
The protein used in our Blend is cold-processed -- un-denatured. This means the protein has not been damaged by heat and is therefore more bioavailable (usable) in the body. This costs more to produce, and is the main reason Bomber Blend costs more than a cheaper protein powder found at a discount store. Our whey protein raw material is certified BSE-free and GMO-free.
