Tire Flipping

Steve Brickman, the promoter of the Northern California Strongman Event, writes of finding a tire for flipping:

A sure fire way to find out is to let your fingers do the walking in the yellow pages and look for a tire shop that carries industrial and "Loader tires". That is what you probably want. you will probably want something in the 500-600 range to start, unless you have tons of room and want to start with a "little tire' to learn your form. Definitely make a trip to find someone to learn the techniques from though, so when you go to the tire shop, you'll know what to look for.

The good news is most tire shops will let you have a used tire for free, they cost a mint to dispose of I think. The tricky part is finding a tire that weighs the right amount, and has good enough tred for you to grab it and flip it.

Look at this pic, this is me with a 550-600 lb tire, I'm 5'8", that is about 1/2 the width of the tire.

Notice my left forearm, that is what you can expect without neoprene on the conan's wheel and stones.
