Hyperextension

HYPEREXTENSION

Taken from Dave Draper's book, Brother Iron, Sister Steel

An important movement for lower back development and stability, the hyperextension is performed on a specific piece of equipment. Hyperextension benches are all a little different. You eventually find yourself lying face down across an apparatus, the back of your lower legs held rigid to support your upper body, which is precariously extended from the hips. Slowly raise your torso upward and approach a horizontal position, hold the contraction for a split second and lower in a two- to three-second count. Short trial movements will prepare you for and familiarize you with this unlikely exercise. Your ascent is slow and thoughtful, cautious not to come up too quickly or too far and distress your low back. Hypers are more agreeable than they sound and their benefits are sterling. Twice a week on a compatible day of your choice.
