HerniaWrites Bill Peel (Wicked Willie) in a forum post: If the hernia is severe, usually surgery to repair the area is indicated, lest strangulation occur. This is bad juju and can have fatal consequences. If the surrounding tissue is weak, stretching muscle tissue and suturing usually won't work well or last. A mesh screen is the most effective. A mild hernia can sometimes be rehabbed or arrested through exercise. Strengthening the tissue around the hernia and causing mild hypertrophy can close or reduce the opening...unless it is an incisional hernia or inguinal hernia (there's little muscle tissue around the inguinal canal. It remains a weak area for most men). Movements done on a decline board, with the head at the lower end can be used to allow gravity to assist the viscera from moving away from the opening and high reps can stimulate circulation. Sit ups should be avoided but crunches in this position are effective as are leg raises, knee tucks and hip rolls. This all should be undertaken upon the advice of an understanding physician. Again, medical intervention is usually indicated if the hernia is severe or it is an incisional, umbilical or inguinal hernia. Wicked Last edited by . Contributors: |
