Golden Era

The go-to place for all fans of Golden Era musclebuilding is IronAge, where you'll find an outstanding collection covering bodybuilding from the '60s, '70s and early '80s. The forum there is the best.

Gold's Gym may have been the place for bodybuilders but Zuver's Gym was were all the powerlifters hung out. Check out this one of a kind gym which existed during a brief period of the Golden Era!

Here's the best collection of Zuver's photos you'll find anywhere.

Bill Luttrell tells of his Zuvers lifting, which we followed with a long discussion of life at Zuver's.

  • The roots of the fitness industry began at Muscle Beach during the 30's, 40's and 50's. Ron Jones created a Muscle Beach tribute page to keep the spirit of those simpler times alive.

  • Opening the Golden Era, Hoffman held annual picnics in York, Pennsylvania, where guys (not many brought their girls, and none of the girls were lifting) came from the neighboring states to share their passion for iron. Here's Dr. Al Thomas' recollection of those early years.
