Dimel DeadliftThe Dimel Deadlift is named after the late Matt Dimel of squatting fame - 1010 lbs. as a superheavy. It is a specialty exercise used to improve one's final pull in the deadlift and also to develop the muscles of the posterior chain, notably the hamstrings and the glutes. It also serves double-duty as a squat assistance movement. It is performed from the top or finish position of the deadlift in the following manner: From a moderate stance, with the feet spaced somewhat close together...a little less than shoulder width, lower the barbell to knee level or just slightly below the knees. When the bar reaches this position, quickly pull it back up without pausing, by thrusting the hips forward and pulling with the back. Repeat for the desired number of reps. This movement is normally performed rather rapidly and for high repetitions, in the 15-25 range. Twenty repetitions in 25 seconds is what is meant by rapid. Here is Scott Bird's take on the exercise: http://www.99shadesofgrey.com/fitness/2005/04/14/dimel_deadlift.php For a video of the Dimel Deadlift, select the highlighted text, then scroll down to "Deadlift Variations" and select the Dimel Deadlift.
