You want sore?

1 Dbl Clean to 1 Dbl Front Squat
2 Dbl Cleans to 2 Dbl Front Squats
3 Dble Cleans to 3 Dble Front Squats...

Up to ten is the goal. Don't put the bells down. The record is finishing four (4 plus 4).

Off you go now...get the 10's with the 32s and get back to me on my next hard idea.

I'll be waiting...

Sounds like a good complement to the 2, 3, 5, 10 Dbl KB Press workout. This is doubtless harder than it looks.

For "N Dbl Cleans to N Dbl Front Squats", do we do 1 Dbl Clean followed by 1 Dbl Front Squat, repeating N times without a pause, then rest in the rack position before proceeding with the N+1 set?

Do the walking alternate kettlebell press as an active rest. Cool down with the two kettlebell swings. Finish with dying.
Mark it Zero.

Yes, it is harder than it looks.

No putting down the bells - the only rest is in the rack position.

Sure, go ahead and make them think it's easy to rest in the rack position.

I tried something of whatever that was.

Threw the horrible at a big meet with the 16#hammer. Was making the same technical error on all three throws.

So I punished myself trying to do this. I need to get all pumped up and sexy looking for Draper fest.

I do one right the other in one giant set. Only resting when I have to. I got this idea from the real old time lifters. Pre WW 1 and 2. These were stage strong men. The TGU was also a stage lift.

The TGU is the one that bust my butt when I do it with no rest from side to side.

My rack position seems to suck. Shoulder fatigue was making itself known after a couple ladders.

Though I haven't done KB front squats ever, so it very likely is due to sucky rack position.

Tried them this morning with a pair of 20 kg KBs. I got through round 4 before quitting. Might of made another, but I was ready to stop. Finnished off with Dbl KB Presses.

Interesting, and it is tougher than you'd think. Resting in the rack position is probably good for my lazy rhomboids.

Hi Dan,

You said.."the goal is ten; the record is finishing four (4 plus 4)".

I'm a a little confused; you do 1 rep, then 2, then 3...up to 10; a ladder, etc; correct? then repeat __ times?
Can you elaborate on the second half of the above statement?

Thanks

Yeah, essentially a ladder.

1+1 = 1 clean/1 squat

4+4 = 4 cleans/4 squats (after having worked your way up)

And I thought it was just me. Tried 5 this morning with the 20's and half way through the 5th rung I forgot the front squat. Concentration gets to be challenging.

Dan,

So, you're saying the most you've done is:

1
1, 2
1, 2, 3
1, 2, 3, 4...without setting the bells down?

If you don't set the bells down, how much rest do you take between rungs, to 'separate' them; 2-5 seconds?
As soon as my back is healed, I'd love to try this, it sounds grueling!

DEvans.
There's no rest.
1 clean, 1 front squat, 2 cleans, 2 front squats, 3 cleans, 3 front squats, 4 cleans, for front squats.
All back to back.

I see. In the first post, when Dan wrote it out, it resembled a ladder template, whic has rest between the rungs, that's how I was picturing it in my mind.
Got it now...man that's a killer!

Thanks

Exactly. Resting is overrated. At best, I will live to be 120. That means I will rest until the end of the world, which as everyone knows is 5321 A.D.

So, I have ages to rest.

Don't you all remember when the aliens landed at the White House and warned us of all of this. It was great. My favorite part was when President Carter said: "Don't tell the stupid people...otherwise it will scare them!"

You all remember this, right?

I've tried "rest" intervals of 3 to 15 seconds. Longer provides more time under tension for the postural muscles. You can only stand so much rest.

It's like resting in GS competition. You aren't doing reps and the weight is crushing you.

I am thinking that this little combo might be the best rhomboid workout of all time. Notice how you "unfold" after doing it.

"Rest is overratted" You should trademark that!!

"Longer provides more time under tension for the postural muscles. You can only stand so much rest." Now that's serious irony...the more you 'rest' the harder it gets!!

Good analogy using the rack in GS comp; it's far from "rest".

Got as far as 3 cleans and 2 squats before losing form with a pair of 24kg bells.
Definitely going to work this

Dan,

How many days a week would you recommend doing this; 2-3?
My wife is about to try it with her 12kg's. She has been doing double KB squats with her 12kg's, so she should be good to go. She's eager to see how far she can make it! :)

I'm doing it EVERY DAY because I want to make my lows too high.

...in all seriousness, and hopefully Dan will tell us his thoughts, but IMHO as long as it isn't wiping you out and/or screwing up your other training, 2-3x/week is probably fine.

Actually, if we are all serious, I can sum most of the stuff. Let's be honest, has there ever been a year where at some time at camp, you haven't looked to the sky and said: "why didn't I know this before?"

We have had years where I say it daily.
