Or maybe the question should be, why not kettlebells? This somewhat primitive method of training involves what looks like a cannonball with a handle. It's an excellent diversion from the normal routine of training we find in the local gym.

KBs have a great cross over training effect for a wide variety of sports to enhance strength, power, flexibility, endurance, speed, and coordination just to name a few of the many applications.

Mike Mahler has a great web site of training routines and techniques at Aggressive Strength Training

Kettlebell Concepts (KBC) CEO, Dave Ganulin, provides an excellent "Buyer's Guide" to help folks decide which KB is right for them. Dave and his dedicated team of KBC professionals also offer training and certification seminars to help novices develop the proper technique and understanding of how to apply this simple piece of equipment to their training arsenal.

I'm certainly no expert, but I have learned a lot in a short period of time and I can tell you this, no single piece of equipment has ever taxed me as hard as a kettlebell.

There is a plethora of info out there and Pavel Tsatsouline is one of the leading proponents in the KB industry. His book, "Enter the Kettlebell" is a worthwhile investment in your fitness library.

Hey David,

thank you very much for the informative article. I have never worked with kettlebells and never seen anyone use them. So I asked myself what might be the difference between KB and DB/BB. Thanks to you it is within my grasp. I will ask the owner of my gym if he will recommit Kettlebells. I am curious now! By the way the girl is very attractive!!!

Lots of greetings patterdale

The KBs are great for traveling (driving travel.) They take up little space and can work the whole body in a short amount of time. I also find them fun.

One of my co-workers came to me the other day and told me about these new Kettlebells he got and how they are the greatest thing ever. He asked if I'd ever heard of them. Looks like I may be getting a few of my own. They make great door stops.
For he today that sheds his blood with mine, shall forever be my brother.

::sigh:: She looks fantastic but what she's doing isn't a typical kb exercise. Looks like she's trying to do a dumbell shoulder fly with a kb. not a good use of the kb because of the stress on the thumbs and forearm tendons with it hanging down like that.

Starting with the kb's in the overhead position and bringing them down to a lateral position with the kbs resting on the forearms is an excellent exercise called the iron cross.

She does look fantastic though.. I'm guessing T can teach her a thing or two about the kbs. She ain't even sweaty enough for a kb lifter, eh T?

Ha! OK Dave! Actually I tried to pull that silliness down after I looked at it as your post was so good re: KB's! I tried hitting the keyboard with my club and yelled Unh, Arrgh and all of those Hi-Tech. techniques but I couldn't get it to dispappear. Anyway, thanx for taking that so good-natutredly Colonel!!

Teresa: I beg to differ, I think you look exactly like the "Kettlebell Girl"....only different & sweatier!! But, of course, I'm sure you look Marvelous Dahling!! Next time U B in Vegas come over my house, I show you my bells! :>)

KBs are a lot of fun and you can get really strong.

I'm not quite sure I get what this girl is doing with them..is she showing them to someone? or trying to fly? and those 8kg bells are not heavy enough for Theresa

Nice RH! I have 1 16 KG'er and 2 24 KG'ers!!
(OK, here goes, stop me if you've heard this
B4!!) I'm trying to get them to breed so I can have more but they don't seem to be attracted to each other at all! I mean, I've tried everything just about! I've arranged for them to be alone with a nice candlelit dinner, romantic pood mood music, the whole shmeer... nothing seems to work! They're worse than Panda bears when it comes to this stuff!!! Maybe I should try "heavy metal" music?! Yea, I'll try that!

Whew! I'm glad to get that over with, I feel much better now!!! Thanx! ;>)

Are they all the same brand of kbs? that's why, Keep in mind, the same brands together are like family, you have to mix them up. the dragondoor bells are high maintenance, they need to be wined and dined at the finest restaurants and you can't mate the same size together... the ader's like a good time but don't need to be spent a lot of money. the lifeline, want a lifetime committment

Try Van Halen's I'll wait...the 16kg dd bells really like that one

LOL..that was a riot, I almost fell out of my chair when I read this

Heh-heh-heh-heh! Glad you laffed and execellent comeback Regina, now I know you're a KB Pro!
The 16 KG'er is RKC and the 2 24 KG'ers are from Outer Mongolia I believe judging by how long they took to get here by camel caravan!! I'll see if I can't get Genghis Khan's Greatest hits, he's the Barry White of Mongolia!! That should do the trick. We'll see what happens! I may wind up eventually writing a book about my experiences. I think I'll call it "For Whom the Kettelbell Tolls" You like 'em?! ;>)

This post has taught me a valuable lesson in regards to Pete - don't post any pics that get the old guy's heart a racing or need for his oxygen tank.

Obviously, there is nothing wrong with Pete's libido or T-Levels. LOL!
