Arm Training and Aging
I just turned 71, 195 pounds at 6 foot. My arms are 1-2 inches longer than normal at 36+, so my biceps have a longer leaner look. My tris look good now, but do you have any recommendation for building peaks on long biceps?
I like bombing and blasting, as you know. However, after 50 I have been unable to gain size in muscle, though hardness and shape were well maintained and decent power was added to the back and legs.
At 71, any grand effort to add muscle size to an already well-trained and in-condition body (without gaining unwanted bulk) will more likely lead to overtraining and injury and frustration. Our biceps’ shape is in our blood, its size is in our youth.
My favorites are standing barbell curls (bent bar best to save the wrists), seated dumbbell alternate curls and (maybe best for peaking) low-incline (30 degree) dumbbells curls. There are no secrets, no trick grooves…
Rejoice in your health and strength.
Rock on… Dave
