Functional movement vs bodybuilding
One of the reasons that I read your mail and buy your books is because you walk the walk. We can see photos of you from several decades showing that you applied your own advice when you were 20, 30, 40, 50, etc.. You don’t just think you know what you know, you know what you know. So, that said, here’s my observation: Laree gushes about these trainers and experts that she video tapes. She has such confidence, it seems, in their expertise. She presents them to us as, well, equal to you in their know-how. But, and this isn’t just to be funny or a wise-guy, not one of these guys LOOKS very good.
Round pegs for round holes. Wait, this one is square…
These guys are strength and muscle-function athletes, not bodybuilders. That doesn’t make them bad guys. They know more about muscles, lifting, kettlebells and Oly lifts than I’ll ever know or care to know. They’re healthy and fit. They’re more flexible, less damaged or damage-prone and faster than I ever was. God bless them. They love the iron pursuit. They are engaged and dedicated to muscle and might. They are not physique-focused.
Good bodybuilders are well-shaped, heavily muscled, out-of-balance, physical wrecks resulting from good old-fashioned limited and improper lifting techniques, those not proposed by today’s strength and functional movement athletes. Hello. I continue the oldies today and expect I would apply them were I to start all over again. Duh!
I personally prefer my limited knowledge and abundant instincts and burning desire. Books, study and being a student drive me nuts. I’m not in denial, I’m just intellectually lazy.
May we live long and prosper, one and all…
Godspeed… Dave
